Ivan Taccone, born in 2005, carries today in cycling the name of his famous grandfather Vito, the "Chamois of Abruzzo", winner of eight stages at the Giro d'Italia and a Giro di Lombardia. He races for Continental MG Kvis Costruzioni e Ambiente and tomorrow will be at the start of the Giro di Sardegna. Son of Cristiano, Vito's only heir, Ivan inherited his passion for cycling from an early age: even before registering as a Giovanissimi G1 at Mosciano Sant'Angelo, he pedaled regularly and felt a natural desire to race and spend time outdoors.
He remembers little or nothing of his grandfather, he was not yet 2 years old when Vito left us.
"Many people ask me about my grandfather, but honestly I have few memories of him—I was too young," Ivan explains. "My dad tells me about him, his character, his achievements as a rider, and how he used to play with us, with my sister Gloria, every time he came to our house. He would put us on a carpet and drag us from one room to another. It's a real shame not to have known him—his advice would be very useful to me today.
Ivan preserves only fragments of his grandfather Vito Taccone, because when the great Abruzzo climber died, he was not yet two years old. Today those memories come to him mainly through his father Cristiano, who tells him about Vito's character, his achievements as a rider, and the moments of play with him and his sister Gloria when he came to visit them.
Ivan remembers only the sensations:
"My grandfather would put us on a carpet and drag us around the house, the fun of those moments. I feel regret for not having been able to really know him: it would have been precious to be able to count on his advice today".
Ivan has the characteristics of a climber like his grandfather Vito: he loves climbing and dreams of achieving important results on that terrain. Since moving to the Esordienti category, he has not yet managed to secure a victory, but he performs well in races and manages to hold his own, showing potential that could emerge with time and experience.
The young Taccone has already had a cycling career rich in experiences: after his beginnings at Mosciano Sant'Angelo, he moved to Pedale Rossoblu, then Op Bike, Aran Cucine, Area Zero, Cam Fermo Costruzioni e Ambiente, and, since this season, he races with Continental MG Kvis Costruzioni e Ambiente – Colors for Peace run by Angelo Baldini. A journey marked by many transfers, which has allowed him to grow technically and find an environment increasingly close to the higher categories.
Ivan, after graduating from Liceo Scientifico Vitruvio Pollione in Avezzano, is continuing his studies at Pegaso Telematic University in the Sports Sciences program, a path consistent with his sporting life. He lives in Avezzano with his father Cristiano, who manages the sports clothing company Vima Sport and is also the owner of Amaro Taccone, a product still produced today in Massa d'Albe according to family tradition. His mother Elena works at the post office, while his sister Gloria cultivates a passion for roller skating.
