The Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI), in accordance with the decision made by its Management Committee during the meeting on January 29 and 30, is launching a comprehensive consultation with stakeholders of professional men's and women's road cycling. The goal is to develop the sector's organizational model to strengthen its long-term appeal.
A letter has been sent by the UCI to key stakeholders: the Association Internationale des Organisateurs de Courses Cyclistes (AIOCC), the International Association of Professional Cycling Groups (AIGCP), and the Cyclistes Professionnels Associés (CPA). The UCI also invites all interested parties – riders, organizers, UCI team representatives and owners, as well as National Federation representatives – to contribute individually to this discussion.
Stakeholders are invited to submit their opinions and proposals on key topics - including the economic model, calendar and participation rules, fan engagement, safety, and the credibility of sporting results - by April 30, 2026.
This UCI initiative is part of a broader reflection on the evolution of cycling. While cycling is now extremely popular across five continents, its media coverage and revenues generated for stakeholders do not yet fully reflect its potential. There is considerable room for improvement, provided a concerted and balanced approach is developed, adapted to future challenges while preserving the discipline's historical strengths.
Several reforms implemented in recent years have contributed to promoting road cycling development (internationalization, new events, growth of women's cycling, etc.). The goal now is to continue this positive momentum collectively, in a spirit of dialogue and shared responsibility, under the aegis of the UCI.
At the end of the consultation phase, the UCI will undertake in-depth discussions with the various stakeholders and partners involved, with the aim of developing a stronger, more attractive, and sustainable model for professional men's and women's road cycling.
UCI President David Lapparcient stated: "Road cycling is an extraordinary sport that has thrilled crowds around the world for over a century. In a context where cycling's role in society is increasingly recognized, our sport still has considerable development potential. The consultation launched today aims to bring together road cycling stakeholders to jointly reflect on its evolution. Only together, under the aegis of the UCI, will we take our sport to the next level: for greater stability, greater growth, and an overall improvement in attractiveness."
