She was looking for the hat-trick, and she found it. Elisa Longo Borghini conquers the stage victory at the uphill finish of Jebel Hafeet and the overall success in the UAE Tour general classification. Behind the UAE Team ADQ captain, the other Italian Monica Trinca Colonel (Liv AlUla Jayco) arrived at the finish line 12" behind the winner and joined her on the final podium. Third place of the day went to Dutch rider Femke de Vries (Team Visma | Lease a Bike) who preceded Kim Le Court (AG Insurance - Soudal Team), Kasia Niewiadoma (CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto) and Eleonora Ciabocco (Team Picnic PostNL).
THE STAGE - Before the final climb, Sara Luccon (Top Girls Fassa Bortolo) animated the queen stage of the race, remaining at the front from the start for about fifty kilometers and successfully conquering the University Sprint Point. After recovering the athlete from Lucio Rigato's team, the peloton rode essentially compact until the second Sprint Point of the day (won by Lara Gillespie), then the battle and the final climb began.
Under the impulse of Uno X and UAE Team ADQ, the peloton immediately thinned out, losing many athletes; Wiebes, in the pink leader's jersey, gritted her teeth for a few kilometers before definitively dropping from the main group.
Six kilometers from the finish, Amanda Spratt (Lidl – Trek) courageously tried a change of pace, promptly followed by Longo Borghini and other athletes. In the last six kilometers, the race's lead group consisted of Elisa Longo Borghini (UAE Team ADQ), Monica Trinca Colonel (Liv AlUla Jayco), Kim Le Court (AG Insurance - Soudal Team), Kasia Niewiadoma (CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto), Niamh Fisher-Black (Lidl – Trek) and Femke de Vries (Team Visma | Lease a Bike).
A moment later, Le Court raised the white flag, leaving the five colleagues in command who, however, studied each other closely in a finale that was both difficult and extremely tactical.
With four kilometers to go, the Italian champion broke the deadlock and with an acceleration forced Femke de Vries and Niewiadoma to chase. The Polish rider from CANYON//SRAM zondacrypto tried everything but couldn't respond to Longo Borghini's progressions, who remained alone in the lead and in an instant gained 20" advantage.
