According to information gathered in recent hours by Dutch media, the Giro d'Italia will most likely be the first grand tour in the young history of the Unibet Rose Rockets. According to what was confirmed by some sources at the Dutch publication Wielerflits, "RCS Sport has already informed Unibet that they will have a spot at the start of the Italian stage race" and therefore will likely be among the teams, along with Polti-VisitMalta and Bardiani-CSF 7 Saber, benefiting from an invitation from the organizers.
To have definitive certainty, as we reported yesterday, we'll have to wait until next Tuesday, but if this solid rumor is confirmed, for the team of Bas Tietema, Josse Wester and Devin van der Wiel, participation in the Corsa Rosa would be an excellent way to move past and mitigate the disappointment after the news of not being invited to the upcoming Tour de France, a race that, as the Belgian ex-pro heading the team reiterated, "is and will always be their dream".
In light of these recent events, the Giro could serve as a consolation prize but, at the same time, as an important functional step in the team's growth process. By debuting in a three-week stage race and competing for such a long period with World Tour squads, they could gain valuable experience, better understanding which solutions to adopt, logistically and in terms of roster, to strengthen themselves and aspire with even more credentials to the major races of the coming year.
In any case, if they start from Nessebar, Unibet will already be a team equipped to achieve significant results and play a protagonist role on multiple stages, given that through important investments made during the last cycling market session, they have signed winning riders and/or those with extensive World Tour experience like Dylan Groenewegen, Elmar Reynders, Victor Lafay, Clement Venturini and Wout Poels.
These riders, along with one of the revelations of 2025 like Lukas Kubis, our Sergio Meris and the many ambitious young riders signed in recent months, could certainly raise the technical level of the event and be serious contenders in both dynamic stages and sprinter stages, as well as in stages that allow breakaways.
Parallel to all this, Unibet's participation could have another positive impact on the Giro d'Italia, which, by virtue of the team's massive social media presence and its fresh and modern communication style, could increase its media exposure and resonance by leveraging the wide (and passionate) fan base that follows Bas's reality across all latitudes.
For this same dynamic and identical type of return, it is reasonable to believe that the many Italian partners (Santini, KASK, Vittoria, Selle Italia) supporting the French-licensed team would be very happy to see the Rockets deployed so extensively on Italian soil, which, by participating in the Corsa Rosa from May 8th to 31st, would ensure them high and prolonged visibility both inside and outside the borders of the Bel Paese.
In practice, Unibet's presence at the 109th Giro d'Italia would satisfy and make happy, in one way or another, all parties involved: to understand if this scenario will actually materialize and if therefore two teams (the other being certain is Uno-X Mobility) will debut in less than 100 days in our most famous stage race, we can only wait with great curiosity for the decision that will be communicated by RCS on February 3rd.
