Finally, the moment has arrived. The Prato-Florence cycle path is ready to be used, and the Prato section will be dedicated to Giovanni Iannelli, an Italian cycling athlete, a young and promising Prato cyclist who died following a fall during a sprint in a cycling race in Piedmont in October 2019.
The Municipality of Prato has kept its promise, and the Iannelli family's heartfelt thanks go to all those who worked to ensure this praiseworthy initiative came to fruition. The official ceremony with the dedication will take place on Saturday, December 6th at 11 am at Via Enrico Berlinguer corner of Piazzale del Museo in Prato.
The Prato-Florence Cycle Path is approximately 12 km long and connects Prato and Florence through Campi Bisenzio, Calenzano, and Sesto Fiorentino. The cycle path is an alternative for sustainable, safe, and fast mobility. The first section, from the Pecci Center in Prato connecting to the Bisenzio cycle path, was inaugurated on May 20th, 2024. The path will be equipped with intelligent lighting and presence sensors to increase evening safety.
