We'll have to wait until December 5th to know the name of the Vélo d'Or 2025 winner: for Italy, there are no finalists in the men's category, while Elisa Longo Borghini is among the top 10 in the women's award.
We remind you that the prize created by Velo Magazine, traditionally assigned by an international jury of specialized journalists, has opened a new chapter: this year, fans from around the world can also vote in the "Vélo d'Or™ Fan Awards".
Many categories to choose from, from classic to innovative ones, including those more related to fan support and personal taste (like the most beautiful jersey), with plenty of opportunities to express your preferences.
In the men's category, the super-favorite is Tadej Pogacar, the world champion who never tires of crossing the finish line first. In 2025, he achieved 19 victories including the Tour de France, World Championships, European Championships, Tour of Flanders, Liège-Bastogne-Liège, and the Tour of Lombardy. Following him is Jonas Vingegaard, who won the Vuelta a España and finished second in the Tour de France behind Pogacar. There's also Simon Yates, the 33-year-old British rider from Visma-Lease a Bike who earned a spot in the final with his victory in the last Giro d'Italia.
The final couldn't miss Remco Evenepoel, the 25-year-old Belgian who won both world and European gold in the time trial and was the only one trying to keep up with Pogacar in important races like the World and European Road Championships and the Tour of Lombardy. The Belgian hopes for a much better 2026, but 2025 was certainly a year where he was among the protagonists. For Portugal, there's Joao Almeida, who with 10 seasonal victories has certainly performed well: he just renewed his contract with UAE Emirates and, even if he won't win the Vélo d'Or, he was definitely one of the important men of 2025.
Ben Healy was the happiest man at the World Championships in Rwanda. The EF EasyPost Irish rider finished third behind winner Pogacar and Evenepoel, but his joy at the finish line well described the strength of a rider who never wanted to give up. Among the Vélo d'Or finalists is also the very young Isaac Del Toro: the Mexican needs no introduction, and his 18 seasonal victories and second place in the Giro d'Italia are certainly an excellent calling card for a talent who is only 21 years old. To conclude this parade of champions, we arrive at three riders who are specialists in one-day races. These are Mathieu van der Poel, Mads Pedersen, and Tim Merlier who have shone with stage victories in grand tours and Monument Classics. Van der Poel was unbeatable for his wins at Milan-Sanremo and Paris-Roubaix, while Pedersen won the points classification jersey in both the Giro d'Italia and Vuelta a España: as for Merlier, we saw him as a protagonist in stage wins at the Tour de France and other stage races.
