Mario Cipollini is back... in the "workshop" to have his wavering heart checked out. The former Tuscan champion himself announced this with a message posted on his Facebook page.
"Hey guys. Here we go again, or rather, here I go. This message is to inform you that I'm hospitalized in Ancona because my heart continues to play up a bit. Here – Cipollini points to his heart – I have a small recorder and through a smartphone and an app they can monitor my cardiac activity. And having detected some anomalies, they've called me back... to order for some tests, to study and intervene if any problems arise. There's also the possibility of inserting a subcutaneous defibrillator, although I hope it's not necessary. But I'm being followed by extremely competent people in whom I have great confidence because the center here in Ancona is up to the task."
"I'm calm, even though it's not in my nature to stay still and wait; it would have been better to be on a bike climbing some hill in Lucchesia. However, I'm in the hands of friends including Roberto Corsetti (one of the most well-known national sports medicine and cardiology specialists, ed.) with whom I have a long-standing relationship and together with Professor Dello Russo they are evaluating the best course of action. These are things that happen because life is like this; you must move forward, not give up and not be discouraged. Bye everyone, have a good week and see you soon."
We recall that Ancona hospital is a national reference point: among the champions who have entrusted themselves to Professor Antonio Dello Russo, director of Cardiology and Arrhythmology Clinic, are cyclists like Peter Sagan, Elia Viviani and Diego Ulissi, volleyball player Davide Gardini and several Serie A footballers.
