The appointment with The Night of the Oscars is approaching, which marks the ideal conclusion of the 2025 season and leads towards a new adventure. On stage will be, as always, the best athletes of the year in each category: we will present one per day, in a path leading up to the party on Friday, November 28th in Milan. The second Oscar king is Carlo Ceccarello.
Last year Carlo Ceccarello was one of the youngest awarded during our Oscar night, an unforgettable evening where he met cycling champions and personalities he had only seen on television. Some shy chats, a few handshakes, but above all a memorable photo with Jonathan Milan whom he will meet again at Principe di Savoia in two weeks. After triumphing as the best first-year junior, Carlo Ceccarello returns among the tuttoBICI award winners winning the Mediolanum Grand Prix as the best second-year junior, a beautiful achievement to celebrate with his entire family and Asd Monselice.
A great milestone for the Venetian born in 2011, this year he decided to challenge himself, setting new goals, alongside the road he started working on the track, a discipline that, after initial hesitation, literally fascinated him, bringing him two Italian titles.
"I started racing on the road from G0 and always did only that, then my coach Giacomo pushed me to try the track. Initially, I wasn't very convinced because going around in circles bored me, but soon I realized it's a beautiful discipline. Usually, I train in a small velodrome in the center of Padua, a safe way to pedal especially for us younger riders. In 2025 I absolutely wanted to improve and I managed to win the Italian championship in speed and madison. These are important milestones, I worked hard and I'm happy to have achieved them, now the next goal is to try the team pursuit," Carlo explains, who is gradually discovering himself. He is still too young to understand what type of athlete he can become, yet the people around him are noticing that he climbs well and is one of the fastest in the group.
Despite his young age, he already has his head on his shoulders and wants to learn from his mistakes and shortcomings. When we ask him about the most significant moment of the season, he has no doubts: the Italian championship.
"Looking back at my 2025, the Italian championship is my biggest regret. I was in a breakaway all day and they caught me in the last lap, I finished second by a few centimeters (he was beaten by Lorenzo Iazzi from Polisportiva Madignanese, ed.) and it was a great disappointment. I was very upset, but this shook me, made me realize that compared to last year the level had risen, my opponents were really working hard and I had to do the same. From that day, I decided not to get discouraged and to believe in myself," continues Ceccarello, who has meanwhile started his first year of Scientific High School, a way to connect even more with sports and possibly prepare his plan B. Alongside the dream of becoming a professional athlete, there is that of becoming a physiotherapist, one day to care for and help athletes and experience cycling 360 degrees.
Carlo grows and dreams. In 2026, he is ready to debut in the junior category, a new challenge that somewhat scares him but he wants to challenge himself; the team will remain the same, a mandatory choice as he jokes, because mom Barbara is the president and is always at the forefront supporting him. It's strange to think that until a few years ago in the Ceccarello family, cycling was just another sport, with no former cyclists or even fans. Then one day, while Carlo was still in kindergarten, one of his teachers challenged him and his older brother to try a new discipline, and from that moment they never stopped.
"I tried many sports, but nothing is like cycling, I'm happy when I'm on the bike. The best thing is definitely being with the team, with my teammates I've created bonds that go beyond friendship, they're like a second family, especially in summer when we can train every day we always see each other and share many beautiful things. In Veneto, many of us cycle and I'm happy to meet new people who share my same passion," continues Carlo, who is fascinated by this world and is discovering it piece by piece.
When he's not on the bike, he tries to follow races on television. His favorites are the grand tours because they last several days and excite him. Wout Van Aert is his reference champion, not only for his versatility and great successes, but especially for his great ability to get back up after difficult moments. "What happened to Van Aert really struck me. He went through a difficult period where he couldn't win anymore, people doubted him, he was criticized, kept finishing second and it was like a curse. However, he never gave up, always got back up and eventually achieved a beautiful victory."
For Carlo Ceccarello, a new season of challenges between road and track awaits, but first, there's an allBICI Oscar as the best second-year junior to collect, and he can't wait to meet the great champions, accompanied by mom Barbara.
