It's an authentic earthquake shaking the Borgo Molino Vigna Fiorita. These days, which for other teams mark the beginning of work for the new season, the Ormelle-based organization finds itself urgently needing to reprogram its 2026.
After an important recruitment campaign, which had brought with it the announcements of signing the 2024 Italian Cadets Champion, Brandon Fedrizzi, and the current Italian Junior Champion, Vincenzo Carosi, thanks to the historic agreement with Team Coratti, a cold shower arrived with the resignation of Sports Director Cristian Pavanello.
"Technical decisions were made that I did not agree with, and if there's no harmony with management, I believe it's right to step aside," explains the technician from Maserada sul Piave, who spent 30 seasons within the team chaired by Pietro Nardin, four as an athlete and 26 in the team car.
A decision that comes at the end of a particularly challenging 2025: "I'm not leaving because we had a season below expectations, I want that to be clear. For those working in youth categories, it's normal to face winning cycles that can last a maximum of 5-6 years, then you have to start over. Moreover, we suffered in three months the injuries that normally occur in three years, and for this reason we did not perform as we would have wanted, but with the organization we had made important choices and investments, and I was ready to restart."
The foundations for a return to the top, until just a few days ago, appeared solid for a team that, with Cristian Pavanello in the team car in the last quarter-century, has won a long series of national jerseys, the world title and world cup in cyclocross with Davide Malacarne, to which are added two European track titles with Marco Coledan and Elia Ongaretto, and another four world jerseys and four European track titles obtained thanks to Alessio Delle Vedove, Renato Favero, and Ares Costa in recent seasons.
"I never kept count of the victories we collected because that was never my goal or the organization's. We always worked for the growth of the young riders, and by working well, successes also arrived. But the most beautiful satisfactions remain the passages to the World Tour of Alberto Bruttomesso, Matteo Scalco, and Alessandro Pinarello, and all the other guys who reached professionalism," Pavanello continues.
Did he expect such an ending?
"No, it was a bolt from the blue. I already had the programs ready for 2026, but I've closed the agenda."
What will he do now?
"I'll take a sabbatical year because the Rinascita Ormelle is like a second family to me, and I couldn't see myself wearing the jersey of another team."
Are there possibilities of seeing him back in the team car of Borgo Molino Vigna Fiorita?
"It was a painful decision, but at this moment I have no intention of going back. If in the future, as years pass, the right conditions arise, we'll see..."
