Tadej Pogacar has been crowned world champion for the second year in a row and has become the eighth cyclist to win at least two consecutive titles, considering the 92 editions raced from 1927 to 2025. Before him, only the Belgians Georges Ronsse, Rik Van Steenbergen and Rik Van Looy, the Italians Gianni Bugno and Paolo Bettini, the Slovak Peter Sagan (the only one with three consecutive wins) and the Frenchman Julian Alaphilippe had succeeded.
In the history of the World Championships, 14 riders have won at least two titles, including those who did not win consecutively: the Italian Alfredo Binda, the Belgians Alberic Schotte, Eddy Merckx, Freddy Maertens, the American Greg LeMond and the Spaniard Oscar Freire. Pogacar has gone even further and become the first ever to celebrate the Tour de France - World Road Race Championship double for two consecutive years. The Slovenian has brought his 2025 victories to 17, over 47 race days.
Remco Evenepoel has secured his second medal in the road race after winning gold in 2022 and has helped Belgium reach a total of 53 podiums (three less than Italy, but with 27 victories compared to 19 Italian ones), while Ben Healy has become the 180th cyclist to stand on the World Championships podium and has brought Ireland back to a medal 36 years after Sean Kelly's bronze in 1989. It is now 17 consecutive editions without an Italian victory.
