The prestigious setting of the Mirandola Savings Bank Foundation hosted this morning the official presentation of the Giro dell'Emilia Granarolo and the Giro dell'Emilia BCC Felsinea - Women Elite, scheduled for Saturday, October 4th, 2025, two events that confirm themselves among the most anticipated races in the international calendar.
An edition born under the banner of novelty, with the start set precisely from Mirandola, the pulsating heart of the Lower Modena area, to seal the bond between two territories: the plain that opens the way and Bologna, with its iconic San Luca Hill, which will once again crown the winners.
At the official presentation, among others, Francesco Vincenzi, President of the Mirandola Savings Bank Foundation, Letizia Budri, Mayor of Mirandola, and Raimondo Soragni, Giro dell'Emilia Coordinator for the northern area, as well as GS Emilia President Adriano Amici, were present.
Francesco Vincenzi, President of the Mirandola Savings Bank Foundation: "We are proud to collaborate with GS Emilia because promoting active lifestyles through physical and sports activities is among our Foundation's primary intervention areas. Over time, we have strengthened our commitment to younger generations, developing quality programs for children and teenagers, where sport becomes an educational tool and means of personal growth. The choice to start the 108th edition of the Giro dell'Emilia from Mirandola deeply honors us. Our city, always a reference point for cycling, is a community that welcomes and supports sporting events with enthusiasm and passion. A heartfelt thanks goes to Adriano Amici, who for over 40 years has professionally and dedicatedly organized high-level cycling events, and who chose Mirandola as the starting point for this important competition, which will conclude - as tradition dictates - in the splendid setting of San Luca."
Letizia Budri, Mayor of Mirandola: "Cycling is part of Mirandola's deep identity. It lives in the stories of generations who have pedaled along the roads of the Bassa and in the dreams of young people who today continue this tradition in the Mirandolese Cycling Club. It is a sport that combines effort, passion, and determination: values that our community recognizes and shares. Hosting the start of the 108th Giro dell'Emilia represents a great honor and an important opportunity for Mirandola. An international classic, with 50 teams and 350 athletes, which will offer visibility to our historic center and entire territory. This event represents not just a prestigious sporting appointment, but also an opportunity for social, economic, and cultural promotion, capable of enhancing Mirandola's identity and excellence."
Roberto Pella, Professional Cycling League President: "The Giro dell'Emilia is a prestigious race, among the top twenty worldwide alongside the Tre Valli Varesine. This year's finish will be particularly touching: Sara Piffer's parents, the young cyclist who passed away last January, will award the Safety Special Prize winner. A year ago, at the Emilia finish line, Sara had recorded a video with Tadej Pogačar, which she proudly sent to her father: a memory that makes this moment even more significant."
Giammaria Manghi, Regional Sports Policies Coordinator: "The Emilia-Romagna Region deeply believes in sport and its values. In this context, cycling plays a leading role: a discipline that belongs to tradition while maintaining extraordinary relevance. The Giro dell'Emilia is one of the most significant competitions, a race with great historical value that renews its prestige every year."
Adriano Amici, GS Emilia President: "The Giro dell'Emilia represents our true flagship event: a race that carries the history and tradition of cycling, but which renews itself every year thanks to the energy and enthusiasm of teams, great athletes, and a passionate audience that follows every climb and turn of the route."
A special memory was dedicated to the emotions of the 2024 edition: Tadej Pogačar, in the world champion jersey, triumphant for the second time in Bologna, and Elisa Longo Borghini, capable of writing another page of history with her fourth personal victory.
The Routes
The Giro dell'Emilia Granarolo, 199 kilometers with 2,650 meters of elevation gain, begins with long flat stretches, ideal terrain for high speeds and initial breakaway attempts. Then the race changes character: the climbs of San Lorenzo in Collina and Mongardino warm up the legs and prepare for the first true watershed, the long ascent towards Monzuno, with its nine kilometers of regular and more challenging gradients.
Following, the short but intense climb of Monte Calvo, the last challenge before entering Bologna's circuit. And there, everything will be decided: five ascents of San Luca, just over 3 terrible kilometers with peaks at 18%. Five passages, five tests of strength that will reveal the champion destined to raise their arms in front of the Sanctuary.
The Giro dell'Emilia BCC Felsinea - Women's Elite, 126 kilometers long, follows the same philosophy. A fast first part, only treacherous on some more technical sections in inhabited centers, until approaching the Bologna hills. Here the Monte Calvo climb enters the scene, hard and selective, the moment when the group thins out and the first differences emerge.
Then Bologna, the Meloncello Arch, and the beginning of the myth: two climbs of San Luca, the first to break the balance, the second to decide the 2025 queen.
