2025 has not been the best year for Filippo Zana. However, the latest races are giving us back the Vicenza native in good condition, finishing in the Top 10 at the Tour of Poland and looking sharp in Canada, first making himself available to Michael Matthews at the GP de Québec and then resisting quite long against the dominance of UAE Team Emirates-XRG in Montreal. And so in these last weeks of the season, he aims to take home some good memories from a challenging year like this.
If we have seen little of him, there's a reason, which he revealed right after the GP of Montreal. "UAE made the race hard, as we knew from the beginning - he explained, born in 1999 -. They lined up everyone, each had their place, and those with legs resisted a bit longer. There was little else to do. I'm finally finding some good sensations after a difficult period. From the Giro they discovered a mononucleosis outbreak, which had hit me last year, and also chickenpox. It's certainly frustrating because you're debilitated, results don't come, and you even lose the desire to train. I hope to have put everything behind me, on the bike I'm starting to feel better. I return from Canada with good indications. I had never done these races, I enjoyed them, they were well organized, with a great crowd and interesting circuits."
In Filippo's mind, there's also the desire to leave a good memory with Jayco AlUla, the team that allowed him to make the leap to the WorldTour and which he will say goodbye to at the end of the year to start a new adventure with Soudal-QuickStep.
"I think changing environment can do me good, finding new stimuli and new objectives - he admits again, the former Italian champion -. These have been 3 good years, even if the last two due to mononucleosis didn't allow me to collect much. I've certainly grown as a rider, learned to manage complicated situations, and now we hope that misfortunes are behind us and we can only grow. With the Wolfpack everything will change, the hope is definitely to take a step forward."
From now until the end of the year, we'll see him again at Cro Race (September 30 - October 5), Il Lombardia (October 11), and the races in Veneto (October 15 and 19).
