The Derek Gee case is erupting. Israel Premier Tech issued a very clear statement: "On Friday, August 9th, Israel Premier Tech unexpectedly received a cancellation notice from the lawyers representing Derek Gee. Gee, who has a contract with Israel Premier Tech until 2028, having signed a five-year extension in 2023, was in negotiations with the team's management to renegotiate the terms of his current contract."
Israel Premier Tech firmly believes that Gee's contract is valid until 2028 and is continuing negotiations with Gee's representatives and the UCI to resolve the situation and respect the contract.
The 28-year-old Canadian, who finished fourth at the Giro d'Italia, was supposed to compete in the Vuelta, but his name has since disappeared from the scene, first citing an injury and now with this legal turn that clearly indicates the rider's intention to change teams. Ineos Grenadiers is reportedly on his trail, looking for a leader for grand tours.
According to UCI regulations, to terminate an existing contract, a three-way agreement is required between the rider and the two involved teams.
