For the third and final Grand Tour of the season, the Lidl Trek will present themselves at the Vuelta a España with an ambitious and high-level team. The team leader is Giulio Ciccone who has returned in great form after his successes at the Clasica San Sebastian and a stage win at the Vuelta a Burgos, both coincidentally on Spanish territory. Ciccone will have Mads Pedersen by his side, fresh from his triumph at the Tour of Denmark, whose goal will be to win the green points jersey and naturally stage victories. Completing the roster are Amanuel Gherbreigzaghier, Daan Hoole, Andrea Bagioli, Julien Bernard, home rider Carlos Verona and Soren Kragh Andersen. A solid group that includes a wide variety for every race terrain.
Ciccone says:
"It hasn't been an easy period for me after the crash at the Giro. Of course, there was a lot of disappointment, but once I got over the disappointment and looked towards the light at the end of the tunnel, I felt motivated to come back and race harder than before. I never would have expected to win immediately, but the victory at San Sebastián was truly incredible, and then following it up with a stage win at the Vuelta a Burgos simply confirmed that I'm in the form I want. I'm really happy ahead of the Vuelta a España and I'm going with full confidence in myself and the team I'll be racing with. This race is always a special challenge, with difficult terrain, but my goal is to continue on this path. We know the Vuelta can be unpredictable, but I'm determined to race at the highest possible level and make the most of every opportunity on the journey to Madrid".
