As we anticipated a few weeks ago, Alessandro Covi's move to Team Jayco AlUla is now official: the 26-year-old from Varese has signed a two-year contract with the Australian team.
This year, Covi finished second in the national championship, won a stage at the Giro d'Abruzzo and a stage at the Vuelta a Asturias. His palmares also includes a splendid Giro d'Italia stage in 2022 on the iconic Marmolada after a bold 53 km solo attack.
Alessandro Covi comments: "I am truly excited to join Team Jayco AlUla for a couple of reasons. First, I have always admired this team for its organization and the various results it has achieved over the years, and secondly, because being born not far from the team's headquarters, I have always considered it my home team. I thank UAE Team Emirates XRG for the long years we spent together, but I felt that, after six seasons, it was the right time to take a new step in my career. I am convinced that Team Jayco AlUla is the best environment for me to grow further. I bring with me new motivations and hope to celebrate new victories with the team".
Brent Copeland, General Manager of the Australian formation, adds: "We are very happy to have the opportunity to bring Alessandro to the team. He is an excellent rider physically, but he also has a great personality and we believe he will fit very well into the environment and culture of our squad. He is ready for a change after six years with the same team, and we are excited to see what he can achieve with us in a new context. Having a rider capable of climbing well and supporting our leaders in the mountains and Grand Tours is, of course, fundamental, and we can't wait to work with him next season".
