Tadej Pogacar returned to his hometown of Komenda and was welcomed with warmth, enthusiasm, and a great celebration. The world champion participated in the seventh edition of the Criterium bearing his name, a race that wound through a 1000-meter city circuit to be repeated multiple times depending on the category, from 9 laps for the youngest to 35 for the elite category.
The race was usually scheduled for June but was moved to the end of the French race at Pogačar's request. The day began at 3:00 PM with trials for beginners, juniors, under-15 and under-17, both male and female, then followed by under-19 and women's elite. At 7:30 PM, the elite men took to the field with Tadej Pogačar alongside Slovenian riders Luka Mezgec, Matej Mohorič and Matevž Govekar, Italian Matteo Trentin, Belgian Tim Wellens, and French rider Pavel Sivakov. Over 350 riders participated in the Criterium.
The small, festively decorated Komenda welcomed the young man who, starting from Slovenia, went on to conquer the world and raced in the world champion jersey. These are also Pogacar's last days of tranquility, as having recovered from the knee issue that affected him at the end of the Tour, it's time to prepare for his return to racing, scheduled for September in Canada and then the assault on the world championship (possibly double, as he might also target the time trial) and the season finale with Il Lombardia.
