The Forlì/Imola, final stage of the Giro d'Italia Women 2025 contested over 134 kilometers, crowned two queens: Elisa Longo Borghini and Liane Lippert. The UAE Team ADQ captain won her second consecutive "pink race" and the German from Team Movistar achieved her second stage victory in just a few days, beating Anna Van der Breggen from SD Worx Protime at the finish line of the Enzo and Dino Ferrari Autodrome, where she had won the world championship in 2020. Marlen Reusser, third at the finish line with a delay of 8", completed today's stage ahead of Elisa Longo Borghini.
In the final general classification of this Giro d'Italia Women, Longo Borghini distanced Reusser by 18" and Gigante by 1'11", the Australian from AG Insurance - Soudal Team who finishes in third place after eight stages. Barbara Malcotti is eighth in the time classification, improving on her fifteenth place from the 2024 edition.
In the other classifications, final success for: Lorena Wiebes, points classification winner; Sarah Gigante, best climber; and Antonia Niedermaier, best young rider.
THE RACE - Starting from Forlì, the last "effort" of this Giro d'Italia Women saw several athletes immediately trying to break away at multiple points. The first action of the day came during the descent from the Monticino GPM when the red jersey Lorena Wiebes (SD Worx Protime) accelerated to take points at the Riolo Terme Intermediate Sprint. At the thirty-ninth kilometer of the race, Léa Curinier (FDJ - SUEZ) and Sara Casasola (Fenix-Deceuninck) caught up with the European champion.
A few kilometers later, the French FDJ Suez rider was the first to crest the Gallisterna, with the Italian and the Dutch rider on her wheel. The situation repeated itself at the first passage through Mazzolano and again on the second Gallisterna crossing. At that point, from an increasingly selected group, Amanda Spratt (Lidl - Trek) and Mikayla Harvey (Team SD Worx - Protime) set off in pursuit of the breakaway, quickly joining the leaders and forming a quintet.
With 38 kilometers to the final finish, after being in the breakaway for a long time, Lorena Wiebes lost the wheels of her companions. Gradually, Sara Casasola and Amanda Spratt were also forced to surrender to fatigue. The race was then led for a handful of kilometers by the Curinier-Harvey duo, to which Silke Smulders (Liv AlUla Jayco) returned with a nice move, but she too had to see her dreams of glory fade.
With five kilometers to go, the pink jersey group caught the young Dutch rider, and in the final curves of the motor racing track, Liane Lippert and Van der Breggen pulled away to contest the victory, which went to the German: today's success is her twelfth career win. For Elisa Longo Borghini, the general classification triumph corresponds to her fifty-third pearl. A pink pearl.
