Primož Roglič will be the beacon of the Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe roster for the 112th edition of the Tour de France. Four-time Vuelta winner and one-time Giro d'Italia champion, Roglič is one of the most successful riders of his generation in stage races and has a clear objective: securing his ninth podium in a Grand Tour.
Alongside the Slovenian, the German team will field Jordi Meeus, Gianni Moscon, Danny van Poppel and Aleksandr Vlasov, four riders with extensive experience in Grand Tours, totaling 14 Tour de France starts. As in the Giro d'Italia, Gianni Moscon will take on the road captain role. Vlasov's season has been carefully constructed to peak in the second half of the Tour. Meeus and van Poppel, known for their physical prowess and propensity for Classics, are expected to play a key role from the start, and being a well-coordinated pair, they could deliver results for the team in the first part of the race.
For the first time in eight years, the team will field three Tour de France debutants, a strong signal towards the next generation. Laurence Pithie, Florian Lipowitz and Mick van Dijke will make their first appearance on cycling's most important stage in Lille.
The young New Zealander Pithie, who turns 23 on stage 12, aims to shine on the Classics-style terrain of the opening week. Lipowitz will use his Tour debut to gain valuable Grand Tour experience alongside Primož Roglič. For van Dijke, the Grand Départ will be almost like a home race: with Lille just 150 kilometers from his hometown, he can't wait to receive strong fan support from the start.
Rolf Aldag, Chief of Sports at Red Bull – BORA – hansgrohe, explains: "We are heading into this Tour extremely well-prepared. Every stage has been pedaled, analyzed, and simulated. The strength of our team will be particularly leveraged in the first half of the race: five riders are dedicated to safely guiding our three climbers towards the Pyrenees. In the high mountains, individual performances will make the difference. This is our race plan and our guiding principle for the next three weeks".
And further: "With Primož, we have the luxury of having one of the most successful riders in our team. He is focused, motivated, and in excellent form. When Roglič lines up for a Grand Tour, the podium is always the objective. To achieve this, we have adopted a very personalized approach to the preparation of all eight cyclists, through high-altitude training, race intensity, or recovery time dedicated to their families. Everyone is arriving in the best possible form".
