The charitable goal has been reached and it was a day of great emotions for Italian ski speedster Mattia Casse; yesterday afternoon he delivered a thermal crib from Atom Medical Corp. Japan to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit of Papa Giovanni XXIII Hospital in Bergamo, donated to the Association for Newborn Assistance. The crib was purchased through donations, totaling €38,000, collected during the Bergamo Charity Dinner and the Castelli 24H cycling race, which Mattia promoted, supporting the "Six Hundred BEATS for NICU" project.
The donated thermal crib is a cutting-edge incubator to assist small patients with a dual heating system, two temperature control modes, and humidity servo-control. The system has an external control unit with a color touch-screen display to set and view monitored parameters, and an adjustable-height trolley with electric regulation that allows adapting the bed's height to the operator's height.
"I am truly emotional," the collected sum has exceeded every most optimistic expectation, with over 200 people and companies donating generously," Casse said. "The new crib, which adds to those already present in the department, will be used for newborns and represents a concrete help and hope for many small children in difficulty and their families. Supporting tangibly an excellent department of the hospital in the city that welcomed me warmly fills me with happiness. I want to thank everyone who enthusiastically participated in my initiatives, and I make a promise: this is just the beginning."
"On behalf of the entire ASST Papa Giovanni XXIII, I wish to express my most heartfelt gratitude to Mattia Casse with Six Hundred BEATS for NICU, the Newborn Assistance Association, and all their supporters for this extraordinary gesture of generosity," declared Francesco Locati, General Director of ASST Papa Giovanni XXIII. "The donation of this modern thermal crib represents a precious contribution to our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, one of the jewels in the pediatric vocation of Bergamo Hospital. The 'Six Hundred BEATS for NICU' project demonstrates how sport can be a vehicle for authentic values and concrete solidarity. The passion and commitment that the Italian champion has invested in this initiative are a luminous example of how personal success can transform into benefit for those most in need."
Mattia Casse has long been personally committed to the charitable project "Six Hundred BEATS for NICU", an initiative born thanks to Ivan Sardi and the commitment of Perform Sport Medical Center and Pedalare per la Vita, which saw him first as the protagonist of a Charity Dinner in Bergamo and then in the saddle of the 23rd edition of Castelli 24H in Feltre, with the goal of raising funds.
