Filippo Turconi, athlete of VF Group Bardiani-CSF Faizanè, finished tenth in the final stage of Giro Next Gen, securing his fifth Top 10 in the pink race, including a second place in the fifth stage. The rider from Varese, together with his teammate Matteo Scalco, remained in the leading group during the final laps of the Pinerolo circuit. Just outside the top ten, Scalco finished in 12th position.
Turconi is the best Italian in the general classification, with an excellent 5th overall position, which earns him the tricolor jersey. Matteo Scalco also secured a spot in the Top 10 of the final classification, placing 9th.
These are Turconi's words: "During the last passage on the longest climb, I immediately tried to set my pace, also attempting to put pressure on Novak to fight for a podium spot. I didn't make it, but that's perfectly fine: I'm satisfied and have no regrets. The finale was extremely tough. The climb had very challenging gradients and the heat weighed heavily. After eight days of racing at high intensity, we were at our limit, completely exhausted. This result could give a boost to my career, although it's hard to say where it will lead. I obviously thank the team because we all did an excellent job".
VF Group Bardiani-CSF Faizanè also conquered second place in the team classification, a sign of an excellent collective performance, with 8 overall Top 10 finishes and 1 podium.
