From June 15 to 22, the Giro Next Gen will take place across Lombardy, Emilia-Romagna, and Piedmont. The Under-23 race will open with an individual time trial in Rho and will likely be decided on the uphill finishes at Passo Maniva and Prato Nevoso, with potential surprises in Pinerolo. Among the teams at the start is VF Group Bardiani-CSF Faizanè, which will field five young riders selected by sports director Mirko Rossato.
At the start is Reggio Emilia's Federico Biagini, who this season has already secured a second place at the GP Industrie del Marmo and was among the protagonists of the breakaways at the UAE Tour. This will be his debut at the Giro Next Gen. Alongside him, Lorenzo Conforti, one of the most brilliant faces of the previous edition, where he conquered two podiums, a top 10, and finished third in the points classification. Also at the start is the Emilian Luca Paletti, author of an excellent third place in last year's final stage. Completing the lineup are the Vicenza native Matteo Scalco and the Varese native Filippo Turconi, an emerging talent from the youth project, winner of the Trofeo Piva, second at Torino-Biella, fourth at the Trofeo Città di San Vendemiano and Palio del Recioto.
Mirko Rossato, sports director responsible for the Under-23 group, commented: "We have a now mature team, composed of athletes with experience and awareness of their abilities. This allows us to set ambitious yet realistic goals: we aim for at least one stage victory and a top-ten finish in the general classification, milestones within our reach."
"Scalco and Paletti will be our reference riders for the general classification, while Turconi will have free rein to move, making the most of the opportunities that arise day by day. In particular, there are at least two stages perfectly suited to his characteristics."
"Biagini and Conforti will also have several opportunities to stand out: on at least three or four stages they could seek results, both in small group finishes and in larger sprints, given the selective final sections. We can make our mark in these situations."
"I hope above all that all the guys can tackle the race in good physical condition, something we unfortunately lacked in past years: I think of Pellizzari's injuries two seasons ago, Scalco's last year, or Pinarello's three years ago. This year we start with a competitive team and great confidence."
