The Gran Premio Pretola finds its personal "hero of two worlds" in Josè Said Cisneros. The Mexican rider from AR Monex Pro Cycling Team imposed himself solo in the Junior classic of the Umbrian calendar, having attacked for almost the entire 130 km race. Tommaso Tasca (ASD Postumia 73) and Daniel Moreno Garcia (AR Monex Pro Cycling Team) completed the podium of an extremely selective race truly worthy, in terms of spectacle and emotions, of the 70th edition of the Gran Premio.
The grip of the first seasonal heat and a route never before so challenging in terms of elevation and altimetric profile made the race even more fascinating, tackled head-on by the 63 riders from kilometer zero. Despite the considerable distance for the category, the big guns began stirring the waters from early on, with Cisneros himself among the promoters of a first 13-rider action, formed just under 100 km from the finish. The Mexican then took advantage of the third of five total passes on the Sant'Egidio climb to say goodbye to the rest of the group, when the meter still showed 80 km to the finish, managing to gain a solo gap of almost 1' on a leading group subject to continuous reshuffling. Only his teammate Daniel Moreno Garcia, Tommaso Tasca (ASD Postumia 73), and Teo Lancioni (Team General System) managed to catch up with the breakaway rider. The contest could only be decided by the tough Casaglia climb, with its peaks of 16% gradient, which returned to the race's route this year. On these slopes, Cisneros placed an additional attack that allowed him to launch into a new solo breakaway, this time definitive, of about 20 km. The 2007-born rider from Aguascalientes could fully enjoy his first seasonal success, delivering a significant victory for the Mexican team directed by former pro Piotr Ugrumov, known to fans for having stood on the podium of both Giro and Tour in the '90s. Thanks to his phenomenal race conduct, Cisneros also collected prizes at intermediate stages, winning not only the mountain grand prix of Casaglia and Civitella d'Arna, but also the TV of Sant'Egidio and the points classification of Pretola. AR Monex also secured the mountain grand prix of Pretola, claimed by Daniel Moreno Garcia, and the Fair Play Award offered by the Panathlon Club of Perugia, assigned to Adrian Arroyo. Filippo Bolognesi (Team Vangi Il Pirata) won the TV of Petrignano and Ponte Valleceppi, crowning a first half of the race performed as a protagonist.
In its 70th chapter, the Gran Premio Pretola once again speaks a foreign language, 13 years after the Latin American success by Colombian Duber Quintero in 2012. A touch of internationality that enriches an edition destined to remain in the almanacs, thanks also to the always commendable organizational effort of ASD Tevere. The society led by president Luciano Bracarda further strengthened the race's deep connection with the Perugian territory and the Pretola community, which as tradition contributed to the event's success with the passion and commitment of its many volunteers. This bond was particularly certified by the presence of Perugia's Sports Assessor Pierluigi Vossi, who followed every phase of the race with great trepidation. A sense of community and participation also returned through the always moved participation of the family and colleagues of agent Diego Patatini, to whom a prize very dear to the organization was dedicated this year, like the points TV of Pretola. Finally, noteworthy was the beautiful public participation along the Casaglia climb, a symbolic passage of this edition characterized, for the first three athletes to pass the summit, by the assignment of three special plates dedicated to the memory of great friends and personalities of local cycling like Adamo Pasticci, Giuseppe Pesaresi and Rino and Enzo Pieroni. Inevitable, finally, the intervention of the president of the Umbria CR of the FCI Roberto Cocchieri and vice president Ernelio Massarucci, in what fully represents a milestone of regional, national and, particularly this year, world cycling.
