One week before the registration deadline, 230 young female cyclists have already registered for the first edition of the Pink Day, a event featuring three races, organized by the Municipality of Cartigliano with technical collaboration from Venturo Sport and under the patronage of the Veneto Regional Council and the Province of Vicenza.
It will be an intense day of sports, which will see Junior category girls competing in the morning, starting at 9:30, and Beginners and Cadets in the afternoon, with starts at 2:30 PM and 4:00 PM respectively.
For the Junior category, Cartigliano's Pink Day will award regional and provincial championship titles. For the other two categories, the race will be valid for provincial title assignment. Additionally, the Cartigliano Pink Day will coincide with the third stage of the Triveneto Championship for Beginners and Cadets.
The Junior race can be followed via live streaming on the Beta Cycling YouTube channel, with commentary by Silvio Martinello.
All competitions will take place on a city circuit measuring just under 7 kilometers within the municipal territory of Cartigliano: five laps for beginners (34.7 kilometers), ten for cadets (69.5 kilometers), while Juniors will complete the circuit eleven times before tackling the line section of the route, covering 22.6 kilometers (total 104.3 kilometers). The route will pass through Nove, Rivarotta road, Marsan via Boscaglie, and continue towards San Michele di Bassano, where riders will climb the steep section of Contra' Soarda. They will return to Cartigliano for the finish via Marchesane and Nove. The finish line will be placed in front of Villa Morosini Cappello, the symbolic building of Cartigliano.
The Pink Day will be an opportunity to commemorate the world cycling championships that took place 40 years ago at the "Rino Mercante" velodrome in Bassano del Grappa: the top three finishers in each category will receive, among other prizes, a faithful ceramic reproduction of Teo, the mascot with an alpine hat from that world championship.
Filippo Pozzato is the manager of Venturo Sport, the organization handling the event: "I have always maintained that to revive cycling in Italy, we must start from the grassroots, and this is exactly the type of event we need right now. Moreover, women's cycling continues to give us many satisfactions, it is growing strongly and it is right to invest more and more in this direction".
The Pink Day was conceived by Germano Racchella, mayor of Cartigliano and a great sports enthusiast: "I want to express sincere thanks to my friend Filippo Pozzato, to all sponsors, law enforcement, and volunteers who will be working during this extraordinary day. A special thanks to the Veneto Regional Council, in the person of President Roberto Ciambetti, to the Province of Vicenza for patronizing this event, and to the Italian Cycling Federation for choosing Cartigliano as the venue for the Provincial Championships for Beginners, Cadets, and Juniors, with the latter having the honor of competing for the regional title as well".
The competitions will not be the only attraction of the day. In the park in front of the villa, a bike park will be set up with a cycling skills course dedicated to children and young people aged 2 to 14, a fun way to introduce the youngest to the world of bicycles in a safe and engaging environment.
