Second rest day, first report card for the teams. I'll go in order of positions obtained in this Giro, starting with Lidl-Trek who won the first stage with Mads Pedersen, giving Denmark its first pink jersey.

LIDL-TREK. 10. Nine team placements, with Mads Pedersen replacing Wout Van Aert and obtaining three stage wins and wearing the pink jersey for five days. Obviously wearing the cyclamen jersey, with 153 points: Tonelli, second, is at 59 points. Among the top performers Vacek (superb) and Ciccone (cautious and brilliant like few others). The best is yet to come, but what they've shown so far has been beautiful.

TEAM VISMA LEASE A BIKE. 8. They started convinced they could immediately break the bank with Wout Van Aert, but the eternal second arrives immediately second: a bitter pill for one of the most loved riders by fans. Tough start for this guy who adores our country and his profession. Seven team placements, but clearly Wout delivers the most beautiful gem, the Strade Bianche stage, a high-level victory for a rider universally recognized as a champion, with a capital "C".

MOVISTAR TEAM. 6.5. Einer Rubio is 15th in the overall standings: he's far, but not too far. For him, the Giro hasn't really started yet. For Movistar, these have been ten intense days, with three top placements, all with Aular. It's a diesel team that needs to warm up its engines to climb the mountains.

INTERMARCHÈ - WANTY. 5. You can't say they didn't try, but by the numbers they've only managed one placement: a 4th place in the 1st stage with our Busatto. A bit too little.

Q36.5 PRO CYCLING. 5. Many small problems, many complicated situations overcome with difficulty. Three total placements: one with Moschetti, two with Pidcock, who for now is the true disappointment of this Giro's start.

XDS - ASTANA TEAM. 7. They always give their all. Seven top-ten placements with Ulissi (a 6th and a 3rd), Conci, Scaroni, Kanter and Fortunato, the latter holding the blue Mediolanum climbers' jersey (98 points, ahead of Ayuso who has 50). One day in pink with Diego Ulissi, who, rest assured, won't stop here.

EF EDUCATION – EASYPOST. 7. Riccardo Carapaz is there, 4th overall at 1'40" from Del Toro's pink jersey. Four placements: three by the Ecuadorian rider and one by Steinhauser. They're racing with great attention: watch out for EF.

TEAM PICNIC POSTNL. 7. A stage win with Van Uden in Lecce, then three more team placements. A concrete team, despite carrying around a virtual chain, an online shop, one of the world's most known online shops, a reality in which Bill Gates is also a partner (he invested over 600 million in this project). One thing is certain: they're not here for a vacation or a picnic.

TEAM POLTI VISITMALTA. 6.5. As a team, they're 16th, just behind Picnic. Two top-ten placements with Piganzoli and Lonardi. Alessandro Tonelli leads the breakaway and intermediate sprint classifications and is third in the Red Bull Km led by Manuele Tarozzi. In short, they're waiting for Piganzoli in the last week, but in the meantime, they haven't been idle.

INEOS GRENADIERS. 7. They arrive without making proclamations, but they're not hiding. They win the Tirana time trial with Joshua Tarling and collect placements with Rivera (a 4th and an 8th), Turner, Bernal (a 3rd and a 9th) and Aresman. Seven placements for a sly team that's deadly serious. They also have the great merit of betting on a rider like Bernal. Egan is there, ready to fight. We're ready to applaud him.

RED BULL - BORA HANSGROHE. 5.5. Among the big teams, they win the "catch me if you can" tournament, for foreigners don't want it. They're here to win the pink jersey but don't want it now, not immediately, only a little, the bare minimum: inside the Red Bull km. So two placements with their number one, Primoz Roglic, who now finds himself having to chase a jersey that seems to have moved far away. He wants it, but when he wants it. But things don't always go as believed or thought.

UAE TEAM EMIRATES – EXG. 10. They don't have the number one of number ones, but they have two who don't make him missed. Houston, we have two nice problems: Isaac Del Toro and Juan Ayuso. First and second in the overall. A young team, but also experienced. They collect a bit of everything. Pink jersey, placed and placements: a full 10. While they're at it, they also win a stage, with the Catalan (Ayuso) who is second, but doesn't feel second: to no one. Houston, we have two nice problems.

SOUDAL – QUICK STEP. 6.5. The Unfortunate Oscar goes to them, losing Mikel Landa immediately. Now they must reinvent themselves, but good Davide Bramati - with Geert Van Bondt - will surely come up with something. Three placements, with Hayter and two with Magnier.

ISRAEL PREMIER-TECH. 4. One placement with Strong.

BAHRAIN VICTORIOUS. 7.5. They came to make the overall classification with Antonio Tiberi, and the classification the Ciociaro is making. Seven top-ten placements with Zambanini (two), Caruso (two), Govekar and Tiberi (two). From tomorrow, as always, all for one.

COFIDIS. 6. They show themselves, try to invent something, bring home two placements, one with Oldani, the other with Fretin. We're at the minimum union rate, but the impression is that the engine is still at minimum.

DECATHLON AG2R LA MONDIALE. 5.5. Four placements in a rather tough Giro, where Bennet and Prodhomme are really struggling.

VF GROUP BARDIANI CSF FAIZAN. 7. Five top-ten placements with Fiorelli (two), Zanoncello, Marcellusi and Martinelli. With Manuele Tarozzi they lead the Red Bull Km classification.

TEAM JAYCO ALULA. 6.5. Two placements and a beautiful stage win on the Marche walls with Plapp. Clearly, Brent Copeland's team's ambitions are higher, but in the second week there are stages for attackers, which this team doesn't lack. Plapp is called to repeat himself, Filippo Zana to show himself.

TUDOR PRO CYCLING TEAM. 6.5. Four placements and a Storer who is close to the top ten and hopes to bring home (read third week) his skin.

ALPECIN-DECEUNICK. 6. Stage win with Groves, who however loses many opportunities. In a start favorable to him, he collects less than expected.

GROUPAMA-FDJ. 4. One placement and David Gaudu almost 7' from the pink jersey.

ARKEA B&B HOTELS. 4. One placement with Mozzato: they'll think about the Tour.
