Silvia Milesi is among the girls born in 2006 who have best integrated into the elite category. The girl from Val Brembana is second in the overall standings of the Regions Cup, preceded by the outstanding 27-year-old Elisa Balsamo. Silvia Milesi, with brown hair and eyes, is the leader of the young riders (wearing the maroon jersey) in the Coppa Italia organized by the Professional Cycling League.
Silvia finished second at the Gran Premio della Liberazione elite in Rome, the best among Italians. It's an excellent result for the girl who will turn 19 on August 16th. "Before starting the Liberazione - says Silvia, now with the BePink Imatra team - I didn't expect to achieve such an important result."
On the Liberazione podium, she also wore the green jersey as the Mountain Grand Prix leader and, symbolically, in Balsamo's absence, the blue jersey representing the overall classification. "Racing in Rome - continues Silvia, who lives in Villa d'Almè with her mom Mirta, dad Simone, and her younger sister Alessia, a junior cyclist with Biesse Carrera - was exciting. Last year I competed in the junior World Championships in Zurich with the blue jersey and the crowd was naturally large. But the Rome scenario is unforgettable, especially with the audience's enthusiasm. Wearing those jerseys on the podium and being congratulated by MP Roberto Pella and other authorities was wonderful."
Silvia Milesi started racing in the G6 category. "I began due to family tradition with the Ossanesga jersey. I immediately liked cycling and so I continued". For Silvia, successes have been numerous since the youth categories. "One of the victories I remember most fondly is the one at Monza Autodrome, when I was a junior".
As a junior in 2023, she raced for Isolmant under manager Giovanni Fidanza. That was the season she became European Team Pursuit Champion. Last year she wore the Biesse-Carrera jersey and won bronze at the European Championships with the team pursuit quartet. On the road as a junior in 2024, she achieved 4 victories, including the Italian Team Time Trial Championships.
At BePink-Imatra, they are very satisfied with Silvia. "Given her values - says general manager Walter Zini - she can become an excellent climber and is also strong in time trials. Perhaps in the future she'll excel in stage races. Silvia likes to work hard, is prone to sacrifice: she needs to work on technique". Rome was not her only performance in the first two months among the elites.
"At the Grand Prix of Chambery - adds Zini - which is a very tough race, until a few kilometers from the finish, Silvia was among the top 20 among elite foreign riders who are 10 years older than her. She lost contact with the best after giving her all, which is beautiful for a young rider. As long as she has energy, as we say, she goes full throttle".
Last Sunday, Milesi raced in Gossolengo (Piacenza) with the juniors (regulations allow girls born in 2006): she finished fourth. "On the Zavattarello climb - explains Zini - she dropped everyone. She reached the top alone with a 37" lead over Giorgia Pellizotti and two other chasers. The problem was the following 18 kilometers of flat terrain. The three immediate chasers worked together, catching her. Then Milesi finished fourth, showing character. She's not a timid girl, she attacks when she can, so she can give us satisfaction. She's the rider every team manager would want".
Tomorrow, May 1st, Silvia Milesi will race in Cantù (Como) alongside juniors. Her sister Alessia will also race. Among the upcoming races for the BePink girls will be the one at Monza Autodrome. "I'd like to win again on the Formula 1 track - says Silvia - if Zini lines me up".
The next "pink" Regions Cup event will be the Giro dell'Appennino (June 24th). "In the races combined with the Professional Cycling League challenge, I want to confirm my leadership among young riders". A few days later, in Boario, there will be the Italian Women's Championship. The under-23 jersey is also at stake. "Winning it in my first year as an under-23 would be the ultimate. It will be extremely difficult". Silvia Milesi is also good at school. She attends her fifth year of accounting in Zogno: "My favorite subject is economics. This year I have my final exams, with the written test on June 18th. Regarding the other exam tests, I've asked to take them as early as possible to fully dedicate myself to cycling. I hope to have a great future in cycling, aware that it won't be easy. My favorite athlete stereotype is Elisa Longo Borghini".
