There's a great new development on the horizon for cyclists who want to ride safely: the temple of motorsports is opening its doors to bicycles. With a predefined calendar of twenty dates, from May 6 to July 29, Italian Cycling Federation members will be able to rack up kilometers on the Monza National Racetrack. This is the result of a convention signed in mid-April between SIAS S.p.A., with the Patronage of the Municipality of Monza, and the Monza and Brianza Cycling Societies Consortium ASD (a direct emanation of the Monza and Brianza Provincial FCI Committee), which has been granted use of the renowned racetrack's road circuit.
The convention, valid until the 2028 competitive season, was signed by the facility's General Director Alfredo Scala and the President of the Monza and Brianza Cycling Societies Consortium ASD Ruggero Cazzaniga, who last night emotionally witnessed the first symbolic lap pedaled by the youngest riders from Brianza teams.
"We've managed to bring the teams together, there's a desire to stay united, and we've obtained this space where children can grow safely. The idea was born for grassroots activities, as the youngest are the most exposed to traffic dangers. Thanks to those who provided this opportunity, which will allow the societies in the consortium to access the facility for free and other FCI members for a contribution of about 5 euros per evening, covered by insurance and with an ambulance present," Cazzaniga began.
"The Monza National Racetrack continues to collaborate with institutions and local entities to be increasingly connected to the territory and the athletes who frequent the Monza Park. In this direction, the agreement promoted by the Municipality of Monza with the Italian Cycling Federation should be understood, which will allow its members to pedal on the track on certain days according to established calendars that will be published from time to time," explained Monza National Racetrack President Giuseppe Redaelli.
"The reopening of the Racetrack to registered cyclists will allow both athletes from Cycling Associations and amateurs to pedal inside the Temple of Speed. This possibility, combined with the running races held on the circuit, confirms the path of greater openness of the National Racetrack to citizens," added Viviana Guidetti, Sports Councilor of the Municipality of Monza, who facilitated the understanding to offer cycling teams an "exceptional" training track.
"Safety for practice is one of the Federation's primary objectives, moving along various lines, from road education to finding safe spaces. In this context, this agreement is a dream come true: an iconic location is throwing open its doors to cycling. I hope this initiative will help increase practice in the province and region and that it's just the first of many. From a cultural perspective, it also demonstrates that bicycles and cars can coexist in the same spaces when the relationship is based on mutual respect and collaboration. On this asphalt, the blue Team Relay has prepared for world and European championships in the past, and it's beautiful that the champions of tomorrow can now traverse it," emphasized Cordiano Dagnoni, President of the Italian Cycling Federation.
The initiative was also applauded by BCC of Carate Brianza President Ruggero Redaelli, long-time supporter of FCI and the provincial committee in particular as a partner for safety and promotion: "This initiative adds to the cycling workshops in oratories, now in their fourth year, and the road education project promoted in schools. We believe in cycling values, which are the same that drive us in our work. Sacrifice, commitment, determination, teamwork, and therefore cooperation are the basis of our creed."
The FCI Monza and Brianza President Chiara Mariani concluded with a good omen: "We are proud to be the first committee in Italy to enter into an agreement of this type with an organisation such as the ACI and the Monza Autodrome, not only for our athletes but for all FCI athletes. We hope to set an example and that other provinces can imitate us so that throughout the boot those who practise this magnificent sport can do so in absolute safety, coexisting more and more amicably with other road users."

The bicycle models admitted for training are: road, time trial, gravel, mountain bike, handbike, tandem, tricycles, and vehicles authorized for para-cycling. The convention provides access two days a week, preferably on Tuesdays and Thursdays, for the competitive seasons 2025, 2026, 2027, and 2028. Access to the track is clearly reserved for Italian Cycling Federation members only, and minors must be accompanied by an adult, who must also be registered.
