On the occasion of the anniversary of Giancarlo Ceruti's passing, which occurred on March 31, 2020, Corrado Lodi wanted to send us this memory, which is a kind of open letter.

The emotional and affective commemoration of the anniversary of the passing of his friend and former federal president Giancarlo Ceruti provides a moment of reflection and, at the same time, a public prologue of thought, coinciding with the beginning of a new federal four-year period that recently began with the confirmation of President Cordiano Dagnoni.

By his side, a federal council that sees many representatives and managers from various regions engaged in leadership roles who will, in fact, provide homogeneity to the development of Italian cycling. A result that his friend Giancarlo would have greatly appreciated for the richness of views and approaches, culturally diverse, that these managers will be able to infuse into our sports system.

After many years, even the presence of his fellow Crema citizens, with technical-sports and political roles of absolute importance in the current cycling landscape, would be a source of pride for him, who had given much to his territory and who deeply believed in "on-field" experiential paths, as well as in formative, relational, and professional processes.

An effort must be made on the growth and management of sports facilities dedicated to two wheels, in close synergy with local territorial entities, also to enhance existing facilities for promotional purposes, tightening the timeframes to achieve a realistic, achievable goal that our Federation will need to aim for concretely and stringently, at a time when the value of infrastructure is a cardinal point indicating the path for the development of Italian cycling, in support and as a pillar of policies concerning cyclists' road safety, which the former president cared deeply about.

The opportunity that is occurring at this moment with a formidable turnover of personnel, without neglecting the baggage of knowledge and skills that could be lost (we hope not!) will impose a necessary reflection on the renewed and different role of a sports federation today, in an overall framework where the multiplied sports institutions are in a serious identity crisis, often losing sight of the new legislative order that places sport at the center of a new and epochal constitutional dictate, to which all the designated institutions should vigorously direct their efforts!!!

Truly a scenario rich with opportunities that our Giancarlo would have seized to try to stimulate a more participatory and shared system that today more than ever needs a broad functional overall vision where school, family, and the sports society can represent the three pillars of a new systemic structure to consolidate an educational model to be strengthened.

However, it is important to highlight that the new development model of cycling today involves new, multiple, and more challenging social, personal, cultural, and sports relationships, a terrain where his friend Giancarlo rooted his own identity as a concrete, coherent, supportive, and generous man, even towards the most vulnerable. Even the indelible and vivid memory of our friend Roberto joins today in this path of memory.
