Another road accident, another cyclist injured, another young man hospitalized. Nicola Rossi, 22 years old, rider for Biesse Carrera Premac, was the victim of an accident while training along state road 45 near Rivergaro, in Val Trebbia
The young man - as reported by the website La Libertà - suffered several traumas and injuries: due to the extremely violent impact, his protective helmet was shattered. An emergency helicopter service arrived to transport him, in serious condition, to Maggiore Hospital in Parma. Rossi, who had participated in the Trofeo Laigueglia on Wednesday without finishing, is not in life-threatening condition.
An unfortunately "classic" scenario: the driver turned right to enter a gas station, and the cyclist crashed into the rear door of the car.
UPDATE AT 5:30 PM. Luca Colombo, former world champion and now team manager of Pedale Casalese Armofer, spoke with Nicola's mother, Mrs. Giovanna, who from the Parma hospital explained that her son suffered a severe head trauma but fortunately internal organ damage was ruled out. The vertebra, which initially worried doctors, also showed no injuries, although Nicola will need to wear a brace for a few days. The Biesse Carrera Premac rider fractured his right elbow: after consulting with an orthopedic specialist, a decision will be made whether to perform the surgery in Parma or at the Piacenza hospital, which is closer to Nicola's home in Pittolo, just outside the city.
