MIRANO CELEBRATES ITS STARS: OLYMPIC CHAMPION FRANCESCO LAMON AND PARALYMPIC ATHLETE MATTEO DEI ROSSI. GALLERY

It was a beautiful and meaningful ceremony that took place in Martiri Square, in Mirano, in the province of Venice, on the occasion of the awards ceremony for the accomplished athletes Francesco Lamon and Matteo Dei Rossi. Champions who honored the city by participating with great results in the Olympics and Paralympics of Paris 2024. The event was accompanied by images of the two athletes displayed on a large screen.
Francesco Lamon, who began his exceptional cycling career with the Unione Ciclistica Mirano, is an Olympic champion, winner of the gold medal at Tokyo 2020 and bronze at Paris 2024 in the team pursuit specialty. Matteo Dei Rossi, a Paralympic athlete with the Officina della Scherma of Mirano, participated in the 2024 Paralympic Games with the Italian wheelchair fencing team. He ranked seventh in all three competitions he was involved in: men's sabre and epee category A, and team epee.
Mayor Tiziano Baggio, Vice Mayor Maria Giovanna Boldrin, and the Councilor for Sports Activities, Damiano Volpato, welcomed Lamon on stage and, representing Dei Rossi who was competing in Canada, his father Giovanni and coach Vittorio Carrara. The administrators presented recognition to the two Italian athletes for their achievements in the challenging Olympic adventure, which saw Lamon and Dei Rossi compete with the best athletes from around the world.
"Francesco and Matteo have fulfilled the dream of every child who practices sports, participating in the Olympics" - Tiziano Baggio was keen to emphasize. "They have brought the name of Mirano to the world, making us proud to be from Mirano and being a source of pride for the city themselves. A special thanks goes to Unione Ciclistica Mirano and Officina della Scherma, the societies that allowed these two athletes to grow and establish themselves. A precious and excellent work for the benefit of our young people, made of expertise, commitment, and much volunteerism."
Lamon then thanked and said he was honored for the recognition received and wanted to remember with a touch of emotion the managers who introduced him to cycling and track activities: Italo Bevilacqua, the late Attilio Benfatto, and Paolo Mario Bustreo, who, he said, "are always in my heart".
