URAN FROM THE ROADS TO THE SOCCER FIELD: TRAINING WITH FORTALEZA, WANTS TO DEBUT IN SERIE A

Rigoberto Uran is retired but no longer wears cleated shoes but bolted ones, no longer pedaling on asphalt, but running and moving around on a soccer field. On the eve of his 38th birthday - which he'll celebrate on Sunday, January 26th - the former Colombian professional is chasing his dream, that of becoming a soccer player and playing in the Colombian Serie A. The ex-pro had said and repeated it even during his farewell party, last November 4th: "I will dedicate myself to professional soccer. It's a dream I've always had, now I want to see what happens. I know it's crazy but I have nothing to lose and I like trying new things." Idol of Colombian cycling and loved by an entire country, Rigoberto Uran is training these days with Fortaleza CEIF - a club in the top Colombian championship based in Bogotá - in preparation for the first matchday, scheduled for January 23rd, which will see his club debut at home against Envigado. Carlos Barato, founder and president of the club, confirmed the news: "Rigoberto will be with us for a trial period, he wants to play as a creative midfielder". It's still too early to know if Uran will ultimately achieve his dream, perhaps wearing jersey number 10 which has always identified the most creative and inventive players. "There are many teams in Colombia and among these there's certainly one that wants some visibility and will allow me to enter in the 85th minute. That's fine with me: just give me five minutes" recently said the former cyclist who is definitely one of the emerging entrepreneurs in his country thanks to the "Go Rigo Go" brand and the many initiatives he's developing in sports and beyond. And since he's not lacking imagination, here he is ready to launch towards the center of the field with the ball at his feet...
