AMATEUR RIDERS | 08/01/2025 | 08:05 Returns on Sunday, January 26th in Lonigo (VI) the 13th edition of L'Artica. The event, organized by A.S.D. Lone Eagle, dedicated to vintage road bikes and city bikes, sees this year the introduction of an interesting novelty. Mountain bikes produced in the '80s and '90s will also be admitted equipped with 26" wheels, steel or aluminum frame and V-Brake or Cantilever brakes. A tribute to the courage and audacity of Gary Fisher, Joe Breeze and Tom Ritchey who in the '70s in Northern California gave life to a true technical revolution by initially adapting work cruiser bikes to off-road use. A "crazy bunch of friends" who consequently began to dare, shaping a new standard that by the late '80s became famous worldwide. «We were inspired by L'Eroica in Gaiole in Chianti - stated Francesco Brojanigo, with Francesco Noro and Alessandra Rovarin among the founding members of the event -. However, over the editions we have found our identity and now we are opening up to a new audience, that of off-road cycling. In 2012 we started with 14 participants, now to ensure safety and healthy fun we have introduced a closed number of 1,000 participants». In addition to MTBs, L'Artica admits all road bikes produced before 1987 with steel frames, external handlebar cable routing, gear levers on the oblique tube and pedals equipped with toe clips and straps. Historic city and work bikes are also admitted.
Two routes in the spirit of tradition and the landscape of Colli Berici: - the short route, 15 km and 160 meters of elevation gain, suitable for all types of cyclists (minimum age 18 completed) and all types of bicycles, as long as they are vintage; - The long route, 51 km and 690 meters of elevation gain.
Among the "old glories" who have confirmed participation in the Leoniceno event are former professionals Filippo Pozzato, Angelo Furlan and Marco Aurelio Fontana. Not just bikes, however. L'Artica will also be a journey through the traditions and flavors of Venetian cuisine. There are four refreshment stops characterized by the best dishes of the regional gastronomic tradition: Vicenza-style cod, polenta, soppressa, grilled salami, cheeses and Venetian tripe. And wine will not be missing: Cabernet, Tai, Durello from Cantina di Soave, accompanied by local craft beer. Pedaling on "old irons" to rediscover a new spirit, a new way of understanding cycling and why not, life. An endeavor not for everyone, especially when the temperature drops below zero. The event enjoys the patronage of the Veneto Region, the Province of Vicenza, and the Municipalities of Lonigo, Alonte, Val Liona and Sarego. Program The Vintage market and the street food area managed by CicloOsteria will be open throughout the weekend, while the start of L'Artica is scheduled for Sunday 26th at 10 am from Piazza Garibaldi in Lonigo (VI). Registrations It is possible to register for L'Artica 2025 until January 19th on the online platform Endu. Minimum age is 18 completed. A sports card dedicated to cycling activity is mandatory. Alternatively, during registration it is possible to complete the daily ACSI Cycling membership at a cost of 10 euros. This fee includes mandatory insurance. Another fundamental requirement is the medical certificate of fitness for competitive or non-competitive sports activities according to legal provisions.
