VINGEGAARD. "MORE SUITED TO ME THAN POGACAR? TOUR SUCCESS WILL DEPEND ON PHYSICAL CONDITION"

For Vingegaard, the route will be important only partially, because according to him, victory will go exclusively to the rider with the best physical form. So to win, it's not enough to be an excellent climber and time trialist, but it will be fundamental to be at the top of one's form. After two consecutive Tour victories, Jonas Vingegaard in 2024 surrendered to the supremacy of Tadej Pogacar, who in the yellow race proved to be the strongest rider of all. The Dane is not too worried about what happened in the previous season, and the accident at the Tour of the Basque Country in April is now a thing of the past. Jonas is certain he gave everything he could. He trained a lot, but at the same time wanted to give himself the right time to be close to his wife who gave birth to their second child last September. Now the Dane is ready to face a new year of racing, and the Tour de France remains his main appointment. "I think the route of the next Tour is a good one," Vingegaard said on television. "Obviously, I could say it suits me better than Pogacar, but it's difficult to state that. The only thing I can imagine is that it fits well with a rider of my qualities." In the last Tour de France, the Slovenian inflicted a hard defeat on Vingegaard, but the Dane does not believe the blame lies in the fall at the Tour of the Basque Country and simply thinks Pogacar was the strongest of all. "Regarding the route, I cannot say there will be something not suitable for Pogacar," the Dane continued. "Everything will depend on physical condition." In previous editions of the Grande Boucle, we had witnessed the Slovenian's performance decline, at least compared to Vingegaard, in the third and decisive week of the Tour, but this year that was certainly not the case, and the Slovenian continued to win until the end, annihilating any possible ambitions of his opponents. "In 2024, Pogacar had no moments of weakness. This means he has had his own evolution, and precisely for this reason, it is impossible today to say to whom the route is better suited. I think the most important thing is to be in the best form. So victory will no longer depend so much on the route, but on the physical condition with which one arrives at the race. Of course, the route is important, but it could be less important than physical form." Due to Vingegaard's fall at the Tour of the Basque Country, his preparation was different, and the Dane had to modify many things in the weeks leading up to the race. "I don't know what I could do very differently compared to the last Tour. What I could do usefully is perhaps not end up on the ground as happened in Spain. With the accident, I lost an incredible amount of preparation that I should have had. This certainly influenced things, and in the end, I arrived at my most important appointment far from perfect."

Sono loro e penso che quest'anno al Tour sarà grandissima battaglia. Per me pari sono, Pogacar più completo e bello in bici ma il miglior Vingegard, se arriva al top della forma potrebbe avere anche qualcosina in più in salita. Però, due fenomeni...

Vinge non ha capito un tubo; un pogacar che va a 25 orari su salite del 9%, non lo batti anche se stai nella migliore condizione della vita; ma pensa al giro o alla Vuelta! Roglic docet.
