Him, GPO. GPO. All uppercase. Gian Paolo Ormezzano was uppercase, totally uppercase. He was a typewriter, a human writing machine. Eighty-nine years old, of which seventy (he - shyness was never his strong suit - would even attribute an eighty) writing, thus a street-side man, a street reporter, a stadium and arena correspondent, from track and velodrome, suitcase under the pillow, passport in his pocket, typewriter built-in. GPO who explained he had "seen the world for free", who specified "not only covered in primary needs (food lodging washing ironing, as Totò would say) and financed to travel (plane train ship car, even the scooter I adored), but also salaried, with pension and severance pay". This meant spending "half of every year away from home". Immense GPO. GPO was the one who ended phone calls to friends exclaiming "long live us". This time he deserves the singular. Long live him, long live GPO. And thank you.
