TOWARDS THE ELECTIONS. THE PROGRAMS OF THE PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES: LINO SECCHI

The long sprint that will take us to the federal elections scheduled for January 19th in Fiumicino has begun. While Regions and Provinces are completing their basic electoral rounds, the four candidates for the Federciclismo presidency have filed their programs. We thought of bringing them to the attention of all enthusiasts and not just the grand electors.
We start today with the electoral program of Lino Secchi, 73 years old, a long-standing manager who led the Marche cycling scene for six terms and was vice president of Federciclismo for one term.

I believe I can emphasize that Italian cycling is facing structural problems that go well beyond episodes of mere media value. The possible closure of historic and prestigious realities after over 40 years of activity highlights a systemic crisis in the amateur world, which should represent the main reservoir for professionalism. The true critical issues are multiple, the most evident being: the lack of economic resources, since sponsor support is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain; poor generational turnover: many young talents prefer other disciplines or abandon cycling due to economic and organizational difficulties; the absence of a long-term vision, which leads us to prioritize news that causes amazement but is marginal, neglecting the debate on how to restructure and relaunch the movement; the lack of training and infrastructure, as youth development programs and structures are not adequate for growth.
Instead of focusing on details, a collective effort would be needed to relaunch the system. Investing in youth sectors, encouraging new sponsors, and creating synergies between amateur and professional cycling should be the priority. Certainly, in this program, I will have forgotten other topics worthy of discussion, but in several paragraphs, I have called for comparison, dialogue, and listening - these moments will occur in official meetings or occasional encounters. To give concrete substance to this intention, I confirm the previously written commitment of an online meeting per month with Regional Presidents and two or three per year with Provincial Presidents for a free discussion that will allow us to keep track of different situations and potential critical issues, in regions and provinces without any difference between north and south. I close by remembering that Italian cycling has a great history, but without serious interventions, it risks losing its future.
