INTERVIEW | 11/12/2024 | 08:23 di Pier Augusto Stagi Barely a few months away from turning one hundred and forty, a birthday that weighs as much as the history of Bianchi. You say Bianchi... and you start the story of a global, known, recognized, and loved brand. Those who work at Bianchi know the weight of history, but also of responsibilities. Marco Gentili, CEO of the Treviglio company since December 20th of last year, knows this well. He has taken up the challenge launched by Salvatore Grimaldi, owner of the prestigious brand since 1997: next year will also mark 28 years for the Italian-Swedish tycoon (he's from Puglia, Taranto, ed.). One year later, here we are, taking stock of both Bianchi and the bicycle market, in a very particular historical moment.
Dr. Gentili, what kind of manager are you? "I'm unfortunately someone who is always called when there are emergencies: either I rebuild in chaos or I accelerate quickly". Here in Treviglio, is there a need to rebuild or accelerate? "Perhaps both. Bianchi has incredible potential, but it's also true that you need a structure and professionals capable of handling the pace of change. That's why we're all requalifying together, in a collective work that is beautiful and stimulating, where dialogue plays the leading role. Only in a serene and proactive environment can you grow and think about the future. We have a model factory that at full capacity could produce 1,500 bicycles a day, but for now we're at 250". What has been done this year? "Besides requalifying, we have simplified and reorganized, and also rethought our production, trying to optimize times. We must produce bicycles, but also generate revenue". You also had a very wide and important e-bike range... "Too wide. For electric, we had 21 models, this year we've reduced to four. In the road muscle world, a rationalization and model hierarchy process was already activated: in any case, we have nine models, including aero, allrounder, cross, gravel, and chrono. We've simplified and are working on standardization to have the fastest possible assembly times. Today we produce high-end bikes by embracing cutting-edge industrial and efficiency logics. Until recently, there was a concept here: the more complex the bicycle, the more it should be considered a high-end bicycle. That's not the case". What is Bianchi today? "An entity with enormous potential, but still with an artisan company DNA. The mentality with which we moved from the old production line to the new one remains the same: we must become an industry and we have everything to become one. Our employees are now more than ready to make the quality leap". How long will it take? "I hope very little, but two/three years are clearly necessary". How was 2024? "Good, because there was a major change in pace and mentality". How many bicycles have you sold? "Until the end of November, about 49,000, in the same period last year we were at 41,000". Turnover? "We were at 121 million, this year we should close with a consolidated 134 million euros: we're at +9%". What will next year be like? "Difficult. For electric, it won't be easy at all, and for muscle bikes, the prospects aren't light either: it will be like 2024. There's still too much material in the world's warehouses, I'm clearly speaking in a general sense and not just about electric. Then add the volatility of the Japanese market, the United States where we still don't know if there will be tariffs or not. And then Europe: France and Germany are struggling, and we're behind them. The global market is there to be seen: agriculture is stagnant, textiles are stagnant, construction is stagnant, automotive is stagnant, luxury is stagnant. The indicators are not encouraging. In any case, we at Bianchi are working well and want to clear out the electric bicycle warehouse between this year and the first quadrennium of next year, to then launch new models. No discounts, but we're working to give the public high-level bicycles at accessible prices. Is Mercedes a recognized brand? Is it in F1? Well, that sentiment of research, technology, reliability, and design that the German automotive house manages to convey from F1 to the Vito, we must be able to do the same. We are 'the race', we are the pinnacle of competition bicycles, and this spirit of research, fascination, and elegance must be applied to everything: from muscle to electric. A Bianchi bicycle carries the weight of 140 years of Bianchi history, it must be seen, it must be breathed, it must be desired".
Il problema e' che attualmente il mercato e' bloccato. Dopo i bonus post Covid, il mercato si e' comportato come una bolla finanziaria. I prezzi ulteriormente rigonfiati, non hanno dato una mano. Aziende come Bmc sono in crisi e in generale, tante altre rallentano. Bici top gamma da 10.000 € e oltre, sono difficilmente giustificabili.

In generale, i prezzi sono aumentati a dismisura, e anche una bici per iniziare a pedalare costa molto,troppo. E questo,indipendentemente dal suo settore che sia strada,gravel,mtb ect etc. Fino a 5/6 anni fa, con 8.000/10.000 € si aveva un top di gamma. Ora si arriva a 15.000/17.000 € in un amen. E francamente, sono cifre totalmente ingiustificate.

Come chi ga commentato prima di me,se i prezzi non calano,la vedo dura. Si è arrivati a cifre poco sostenibili, per uno sport che era di matrice povera e accessibile a molti, tanti anni fa.
