VAN AERT RETURNS TO CYCLOCROSS: SIX RACES THIS WINTER, DEBUT ON DECEMBER 23 IN MOL

Wout van Aert will soon return to racing and will make his seasonal debut in cyclocross on December 23 in Mol, Belgium. In total, there will be 6 mud races, including once again the Benidorm World Cup, the only race he will do outside Belgium: the World Championship in France, which will take place in early February, is currently not mentioned in his program.
After the race in Mol on December 23, there will be a race in Loenhout on the 27th, then on January 4 in Gullegem and on the 5th in Dendermonde. As last year, Van Aert will be in Spain in Benidorm on January 19, and the last race will be on the 25th in Maasmechelen.
"Cyclocross remains my first love, which is why I like to return to it every winter" - Van Aert stated - "This winter we opted for a six-race program that fits well with my training plan. It will be a cyclocross season that I will approach purely for the love of the sport, but with modest ambitions. After my accident at the Vuelta and my knee injury, it is essential to make the most of the time I have to prepare for the road season. Some cyclocross races fit well with this plan, but the program is deliberately more limited compared to previous years".
Van Aert does not intend to show his best form during his first race in Mol; for him, cyclocross will be done in function of road preparation, where the main objective will be the Spring Classics.
"That will be the first objective to work on, but certainly I will not reach my highest level in those races. I am incredibly excited to return to the field and can't wait to meet my fans again".
After the short cyclocross season, the Flemish rider will return to Spain to continue preparing for road races. Regarding the meeting with his rivals, namely Van der Poel and Pidcock, the World Cup stage in Benidorm could be the battlefield to see the world's top three cyclocross riders.
