Unfortunately, one thing is certain: Crescenzo D'Amore, a Neapolitan born on April 2, 1979, has left us, after a difficult life, full of steep climbs and few flat moments. As we mentioned, he had been Junior World Champion and had also won among Professionals. He had stopped and then resumed with the Androni Giocattoli jersey, but in 2011 he bid farewell to competitive activity, due to a lumbar sciatica that he was never able to resolve. A true Neapolitan, he had chosen an exotic location for his last race: the Singapore Criterium, a completely flat night circuit where he hoped to conclude his career with a victory. He only partially succeeded, because he did not win, but to the best of his abilities, he contributed to the success of his teammate Omar Bertazzo.

A sprinter-type rider, he began racing in cycling at the age of 11. As a junior, he was second in the time trial kilometer at the 1996 Junior World Track Championships; he then won the line race category at the 1997 World Road Championships in San Sebastian. He then raced for two years as an amateur in Tuscany, first with Casini-Vellutex and then with Grassi-Mapei, winning the Vicenza-Bionde in 1999. He turned professional in 2000 with Mapei-Quick Step, with whom he won a stage in the Vuelta a Argentina that season. In 2002 he transferred to Cage Maglierie-Olmo (which became Tenax in 2003), but did not obtain any victories in two seasons. In 2004, having joined Acqua & Sapone-Caffè Mokambo directed by Palmiro Masciarelli, he returned to success in a stage of the Settimana Internazionale di Coppi e Bartali, beating Ján Svorada in a sprint in Scandiano. In 2003 and 2004 he also participated in the Giro d'Italia, achieving two third places in group sprints, one in San Donà di Piave in the 2003 edition and one in Alba the following year. He retired from activity at the end of 2007, after two more years with Acqua & Sapone and a season with OTC Doors-Lauretana. Staying away from competitive cycling for three years, during which he worked as a commercial representative, he returned to professional cycling in 2011 to race with the Androni Giocattoli jersey. The experience ended in April of that year.
