Allowing talented young female cyclists to grow gradually and without pressure. This is the primary objective of Nexetis, the women's team established by the Swiss Cycling Federation, which was presented yesterday in Zurich.
The team will be affiliated in the Confederation with Continental status, and leading the eleven athletes that make up the roster will be South Tyrolean Edi Telser, current coach of the Swiss mountain bike national team, who will assume the role of head coach of the new team. Among the team's components will also be three Japanese girls, but standing out are certainly the names of Swiss riders Jasmin Liechti, vice world champion in time trial in the U23 category and fourth at the Europeans in the same specialty, and Ginia Caluori, sixth at the European Gravel Championships. "So far in Switzerland, we did not have a team that would allow our girls to grow and develop their talent. This team was born to give Swiss female cyclists the opportunity to compete in an international context, growing in small steps to then emerge in professional cycling," said Thomas Peter, CEO of Swiss Cycling. He then added: "A team like this is a novelty. The jump after the Junior period is too big for most talents, we want to fill this gap."
The Nexetis team managers are defining a first draft of the race calendar: the road debut should take place in March, and on the agenda should be participation in the Tour de Suisse Women and the Tour de Romandie Feminin, to which gravel competitions will be added. Meanwhile, the team's website has been activated, which reads: "In Nexetis, success is not defined only by race results. We measure our results based on the holistic development of our athletes, fostering growth not only as cyclists, but as individuals who embody uniqueness, confidence, and self-esteem".
