Five out of six titles for Australia on the opening day of the Oceania Road Championships dedicated to time trial races. Among Elite, Under 23 and Under 19 categories, the Aussies have indeed dominated from the first to the last race, claiming all the colors of a championship that, after being cancelled in 2025, this year will take place entirely in the surroundings of Brisbane.
At Mount Walker in particular, the time trials took place which, at Elite level, favored the twenty-six-year-old Conor Leahy among the men and the super veteran New Zealander Bronwyn MacGregor among the women, the only one able to break Australian hegemony on the night by claiming (at 43 years old) her first continental gold of her career in the discipline.
Oliver Bleddyn and Katelyn Nicholson could do nothing against them, closing respectively in the men's and women's categories with a deficit of 21 and 12 seconds from the day's winners. However, these were not the closest races, as among the Under 23 men, the gap between the winner Thomas Waites and second-placed Julian Baudry was just half a second.
For him, as for all the others who failed to claim gold, there will be an opportunity to make amends during the Italian night between Thursday and Friday when the road races of the championship will be held.
