While the first stage races are taking place in Europe and the Middle East, it's time for national championships in other latitudes. In Colombia, Brandon Rivera (INEOS Grenadiers) won the time trial title completing the 44-kilometer Zipaquirá circuit in 47 minutes and 03 seconds. The 29-year-old, at his third career victory, beat Daniel Martínez (Red Bull - BORA -hansgrohe) by 1'53" and Rodrigo Contreras (Nu Colombia), who finished third with virtually the same time gap as Martinez. Among women, Diana Peñuela (Sistecredito – GW) won the title for the third consecutive year, covering the 26 kilometers in 32 minutes and 34 seconds.
We move to South Africa, where the national time trial championships saw the success of Stefan de Bod and Ashleigh Moolman-Pasio. The 29-year-old Modern Adventure Pro Cycling athlete, fresh from his fourth place overall at the AlUla Tour, pedaled 44 kilometers in 50 minutes and 02 seconds, distancing his teammate Byron Munton by 14" and Alan Hatherly of Team Jayco AlUla by 53".
In the women's race, the AG Insurance - Soudal Team rider recorded a time of 39 minutes and 21 seconds over 29 kilometers; Lucy Young (Team Tshenolo) and S'annara Grove (Smurfit) finished second and third, with delays of 45" and 1'18" respectively from the winner.
