The Holmgren sisters will wear the Lidl Trek jersey at least until the end of 2028. The announcement came directly from the American team with which the talented Canadian athletes have been racing since 2024.
Isabella, already world champion in cross country as a Junior and U23 and Pan-American and Canadian elite cyclocross champion, obtained her first victory on the road in the highest category at the conclusion of the Durango Durango on May 20th, on the eve of her twentieth birthday. She then stood out in the Giro d'Italia Women where she finished seventh in the general classification and second in the young riders' ranking, also conquering the podium at Monte Nerone (third) and other placements at Pianezze (seventh) and Imola (sixth).
"There have been many positive aspects in my first years with the team and I would like to continue growing with Lidl-Trek in the coming seasons. My teammates, my colleagues, and all staff members have a lot of experience and are very helpful, it's nice to learn from all of them" Isabella said, who in 2024 finished second in the Tour de l'Avenir Femmes.
And further: "I'm happy to have the support of the Trek Factory team for mountain bike races, the transition from MTB to road bike has been easy thanks to them. Pedaling on the road or with an MTB has been very positive for me so far, I want to continue, it inspires me".
Like her sister, Ava will also continue her activity on the road and pedaling on "fat wheels". "I feel part of the family and I'm encouraged to do my best, even if this means making mistakes along the way to grow. I particularly like the mix of professionalism and friendliness that everyone in Lidl-Trek has" said the Canadian U23 time trial champion, who just yesterday completed the Tour de Pologne Women.
Young but with an already important palmares that includes the silver medal at the Cyclocross World Championships, a World Cup victory in short track and the world bronze in short track, Ava added: "In the coming seasons I want to be noticed for my temperament: I love races with challenging routes and I like to attack. I want to improve and be more supportive of my teammates to achieve team results and also be ready to seize personal opportunities when they arise".
Luca Guercilena, General Manager of Lidl Trek, commented on the Holmgren sisters' contract extension: "Isabella is one of the most interesting young talents in cycling, she has already demonstrated her value in cyclocross and mountain bike, and this year we saw her enormous potential on the road. Her results at the Giro were beyond expectations and she has shown she can compete with the world's best climbers. The next few years will be crucial for her development and we are committed to giving her the support, structure, and opportunities she needs to reach her full potential. Ava is a great emerging talent, she is becoming strong and versatile and is learning from every race, from her teammates, staff, and her experiences. We know her potential is high and she is making great strides to reach it. With the right environment and continued support, we are confident she will deliver impressive performances in the next three years".
