These days, the Vuelta a Colombia Femenina, a 2.2 class race that will conclude today after five stages, is taking place, and some images from this South American competition are going viral. Everything happened during the second stage, a 114-kilometer race starting from Girardot and ending at the Alto de la Línea finish line. Along the climb, while Andrea Ramirez from Pato Bike and Maria Paula Latriglia from Sistecredito were in the breakaway and pedaling in the rain, a dog joined them and followed them for a while on the route, stunning commentators and fans watching the streaming transmission.
On the climb's slopes, Ramirez dropped her breakaway companion and crossed the finish line with a 2'41" advantage over the second-place finisher and over three minutes ahead of other chasers. But pay attention because about 4 minutes after the winner's arrival, here comes the plot twist: the dog crossed the finish line, tongue hanging out.
This was followed by further amazement, with the commentator almost incredulously exclaiming, "The dog, the dog!" The Colombian Cycling Federation then published the post and video you can see below. It's unclear how many kilometers the little dog walked (some users speculate it was on the route for the last nine kilometers).
After reporting this unusual event, we cannot help but highlight that the dog's presence on the route could have endangered the athletes' safety.
