AUSTRALIA. FIRST NATIONAL TITLES AWARDED: ZAC MARRIAGE KING OF TIME AMONG U23. ELITE AND WOMEN ON STAGE TOMORROW

Today in Perth, capital of Western Australia, the national championships opened and the first titles in time trial events were awarded. Wearing the "green and gold" jersey among the U23 men was 21-year-old Zac Marriage.
The Butterfields Ziptrack Racing rider completed the 28.8 km course in 35 minutes and 52 seconds, distancing Fergus Browning of Ccache X Bodywrap by 41", last year's winner of the first stage of the Tour de l'Ain and the Australian U23 National Road Championship. On the lowest step of the podium was John Carter - also from Ccache X Bodywrap - who was 1'29" behind the new national champion Marriage.
Among the Juniors, 17-year-old Max Goold (Blackburn CC) was successful, capable of covering the 19.2 kilometers of the course in 25 minutes and 11 seconds and leaving behind him in the order of arrival Lucas Stevenson, silver medalist by 5", and Fletcher Medway, distanced by 24" and winner of the bronze medal.
Amelie Sanders, registered with the Gold Coast CC team, was crowned national time trial champion in the Junior women's category, covering 19 kilometers in 29 minutes and 36 seconds, doing better than her peers Georgia Gardiner, second by 10"28, and Leani Van der Berg, third with a deficit of 20"58.
With the first day of races concluded, tomorrow we will witness the events of the major categories. Among the 15 elite men who will face the 38.4-kilometer trial, the favorites are certainly Luke Plapp, the outgoing champion and the last to launch from the starting ramp, but also Chris Harper and Michael Hepburn (2nd and 3rd last year, ed.) and obviously Jay Vine.
Twelve Elite Women will compete for the title that last year was Grace Brown's. We will not see at the start the 32-year-old from Camperdown who has concluded her brilliant career, and so all eyes will be on Brodie Chapman who will certainly want to hunt for her first victory with UAE Team ADQ, which she joined this year after several seasons with Lidl Trek.
