This month the Italian Association of Professional Cyclists start a campaign in favor of the athletes safety to increase attention to this important issue. The association takes once again a position in this sense to open drivers eyes that too often do not respect cyclists on the road.
To draw the attention of even the non-cycling fans on the high number of accidents involving those who ride on Italian roads, from Milan-Sanremo race ACCPI will promote an information campaign realizing 10.000 stickers that will be distributed during the most important races of the national calendar.
The yellow and black logo, which recalls motorists to keep a safe distance from the bike at least of 1.50 m in the moment of overtaking, will be attached on the rear window of the car or wherever you prefer. It will be a small gesture but the riders of the highest category hope it will lead to a greater focus on the safety of all cyclists.
«The streets are increasingly invaded by the means of transport more environmentally friendly and most beautiful in the world, we just ask drivers for a greater attention and respect for cyclists. As for the protection in the race, during Paris-Nice we will meet again with our foreign colleagues in a meeting organized by the CPA to decide the representatives of the International Riders Association who will be attending to all World Tour races in support of the participants» explains ACCPI President Cristian Salvato. «We immediately embraced with enthusiasm the initiative promoted by Gianni Bugno and his staff because we are aware that riders need our concrete presence in the street. At each race there will be a CPA delegate plus a representative of the National Association of the country in which the event is run and a representative in the group who will work with the organizers to solve delicate situations such as those which have arisen, for example, at last year Giro d'Italia in Bari and Stelvio stages. Cyclists must think only to race, we have been chosen by them to represent them at the table of negotiations and at races. We have to be even more present in competitions to work with the other parties involved, to protect our girls and boys. Everybody will benefite if we create a better cycling product».
