Il monologo del ventiduenne della Liquigas-Cannondale al Tour of California non si ferma: anche nella terza tappa (San Josè-Livermore di 185 km) il successo in volata è suo, davanti ad Haussler e Boonen. L’eccezionale momento di Sagan è stato supportato nel migliore dei modi da tutta la Liquigas-Cannondale, che si è prodigata per lunghi tratti della corsa per permettergli anche oggi di disputare la volata. Nel finale, poi, è stato lo stesso Sagan a regalare spettacolo. Partito dalla terza posizione, ha rimontato e sorpassato con una volata di potenza pura. «Questo filotto di vittorie sta andando oltre ogni migliore previsione – ha spiegato Sagan – innanzitutto perché era più di un mese che non correvo. Sono felicissimo, non c’è dubbio, ed è una gioia che voglio condividere con tutti i miei compagni, artefici quanto me di questi successi. Sto correndo sereno e tranquillo, cercando di dare tutto me stesso per finalizzare il lavoro della squadra. Mi piace vincere e ogni occasione per me è buona. Nei finali di corsa mi affido all’istinto. Oggi sono partito da dietro, cercando di non scoprirmi e uscire solo al momento giusto. Finora tutto sta riuscendo a meraviglia ma non mi illudo: le prossime sono tappe dure, poi c’è la crono. Sarà il terreno per gli uomini che vogliono, e possono, conquistare la generale». Per il terzo giorno consecutivo Peter Sagan mantiene la maglia gialla di leader, così come quella della classifica a punti e quella dei giovani. Nel computo dei successi stagionali, infine, lo slovacco è arrivato a quota sei mentre la Liquigas-Cannondale a quota 18.

Ci sarà rimasto male Tom Boonen, dopo aver fatto lavorare la squadra a circa 40 dall’arrivo per chiudere sulla fuga di giornata, dopo che Vincenzo Nibali sull’ultimo strappo ha tenuto a tiro gli ultimi due assaltatori, così da arrivare a disputare la volata come lui voleva, ma Peter Sagan in questo momento ha una lucidità di gara e una potenza in volata davvero notevole, così si è dovuto accontentare del terzo posto, battuto in rimonta anche da Heinrich HAUSSLER (Garmin).
Una riflessione sulla Colombia Coldeportes anche oggi all’attacco, appena la strada, sale subito in evidenza, vedremo cosa sapranno fare nelle prossime tappe, speriamo che Vincenzo Nibali, oggi al servizio di Peter Sagan, abbia la condizione per rispondere con efficacia.
