At 15 years old, Real Madrid wanted him, who knows if in a year or two the doors of UAE, Visma or Red Bull will come knocking... Jeppe Corfitzen, born in 2004, has clear ideas: "My dream has always been to reach the elite of sport. If in football I only came close to achieving it, with cycling I can make that dream come true".
Corfitzen played football as a right winger: considered one of the greatest Danish talents of his generation, he moved from FC Copenhagen to Lecce's youth team, won an extraordinary youth championship in 2023, made his Serie A debut at 18 years old and then his story transformed into a relentless series of knee surgeries: "It all started with a small meniscus tear that was handled very poorly. From there came the rupture of my knee ligaments, then the meniscus again, then the ligaments again until after the seventh operation, which I underwent after resuming training with Aarhus Fremad, I said enough" he told Eurosport Denmark.
Just before deciding to quit, cycling began to seriously occupy his mind: "I've always followed cycling and I've always found it fantastic. It's obviously very different from football, but in reality I feel it suits me very well. I've practiced elite sport my whole life and without this experience I really wouldn't know what to do with myself".
In the saddle, Corfitzen doesn't hold back, as demonstrated by the constant updates he posts on his Instagram profile: today he trains with Amager Cykel Ring and his new goal is simple: he wants to discover how far his talent can take him.
"I'll definitely try with all my heart. Now it's about training as much as possible during the winter, and then I'll see where I stand when the season starts. I know that on social media people have compared me to Remco Evenepoel, who played football as a kid: it would be truly fantastic to follow in his footsteps, that's something you can dream about. When I realized I couldn't give 100% in football anymore, there was no point in continuing. In cycling, I know I can give 200% every single day. That's why I chose it".
