Jelte Krijnsen is the first of seven surplus riders from Jayco AlUla (the team that closed its 2027 roster with the signing of Ben O'Connor) to find a new home for next year. The twenty-five-year-old Dutch rider, who has raced for the Australian outfit over the last two seasons, has signed a one-year contract with BEAT CC p/b Saxo, where, speaking his native language, he will attempt to revive his prospects by finally putting behind him the problems that have plagued him in recent times.
"Two years ago Jelte was considered the great revelation of Dutch cycling," reads the announcement from the Dutch team released through its social media channels. "He won the Druivenkoers - Overijse, a stage of the Tour of Denmark, one stage and the general classification of the Tour of Taihu Lake, and thus made his way to the World Tour, where, following a crash, he had to face the long-lasting consequences of a concussion".
The reference is to the fall he suffered at the Tour de Wallonie 2025, after which Krijnsen experienced symptoms (severe headaches and extreme fatigue) that prevented him from displaying his qualities both last year and in this 2026, when, as effects of a traumatic brain injury diagnosed after numerous tests, they returned to weaken him.
The physical difficulties and the time spent discovering the cause of his ailment meant that the native of Bolsward finished the season just concluded with only 18 racing days and no significant results except for third place at the Trofeo Ses Salines. All of this, however, did not discourage the team founded by Geert Broekhuizen, which, demonstrating continued belief in him and his potential, was quick to offer him a contract for 2027.
"Next season Jelte will strengthen our squad and we are confident that he will be able to return to his former levels, even taking a further step forward!" hope those at BEAT Cycling, a team that next year will also be able to count on the sprinting prowess of Mathis Avondts, a twenty-three-year-old Belgian leaving Azerion / Villa Valkenburg (winner in 2026 of a stage at the Tour of Hellas, one at the Ronde de l'Oise as well as the Salverda Bouw Ster van Zwolle), announced shortly after confirming the acquisition of Krijnsen.
