After announcing the arrival of many young talents, Team Jayco AlUla closes its transfer campaign ahead of the 2027 season with an experienced rider: Danish climber Mikkel Honoré.
The twenty-nine-year-old will strengthen the squad's roster in hilly classics for the upcoming season. Winner of a stage at the Itzulia Basque Country, Honoré brings with him considerable experience, accumulated over more than eight years in the WorldTour peloton. Thanks to a solid palmares that includes prestigious podium finishes in some of the most demanding races – such as the Klasikoa San Sebastian and the Bretagne Classic – Honoré adds depth to the team. His deep knowledge of the most important races will also be an added value for the team's emerging young talents.
Earlier this season, the Danish rider suffered a serious crash that forced him into an intensive care unit. Despite broken ribs and collarbone and fractured vertebrae, Honoré demonstrated great strength and determination, managing to return to competition and securing, among various top-10 finishes, a podium at the Memorial Marco Pantani.
Mikkel Honoré concludes: "I am thrilled to join the team next year; it means a lot to me and is an important step in my career to make this change, embracing the mentality and philosophy of Team Jayco AlUla. The crash I suffered at the beginning of this season gave me a completely different perspective on life and cycling. Overall, I feel much more privileged to be able to do what I love. I believe I'm enjoying racing much more than before. I feel I still have a lot to offer, thanks to my experience and personal ambitions; I can't wait to become part of Team Jayco AlUla and aim for great achievements together in the future".
Gene Bates, Performance Manager, adds: "We are extremely happy and satisfied that Mikkel Honoré is joining the team for 2027 and 2028. This is undoubtedly a rider of great significance, with considerable experience and an impressive track record; we look forward to his arrival to strengthen our one-day classics group. This year we have worked very well in this area, with riders of the caliber of Schmid, Matthews, Vendrame, Covi and others. It is the sector where we have proven to be strongest, and it will be fantastic to be able to count on Mikkel to further enhance this group, bringing an additional level of expertise. It has been inspiring to see how Mikkel recovered after the very serious accident he suffered at the beginning of the season, returning to his best levels – as demonstrated, among other things, by his excellent performance at the World Championships over the last two months. Mikkel will join us directly from the Tour of Guangxi, reaching the team retreat scheduled for this week in northern Italy; we look forward to welcoming him to the GreenEDGE family".
