On the occasion of the new edition of the Festival dello Sport in Trento, Maurizio Fondriest unveiled in preview the documentary film project dedicated to his life and his extraordinary career in cycling.
The spark was ignited by the intense experience at the Nedbank Gravel Burn: 750 kilometers immersed in the wild nature of the Great Karoo, in South Africa, tackled side by side with his daughter Carlotta. An adventure that becomes the narrative pretext to rewind the tape of memories and retrace the fundamental stages of his human and competitive journey.
What gives unique value and profound depth to the project are the exceptional testimonies present within the film: contributions from champions of the caliber of Gianni Bugno and an absolute giant in the history of cycling like Eddy Merckx. Their words and anecdotes offer an unprecedented look at the class, tactical intelligence, and the indelible mark that Fondriest left on modern cycling.
At the heart of the work emerges with force the family bond and his relationship with his children. The birth of Maria Vittoria is inextricably linked to the victory of the Milan-San Remo in 1993, one of the most beautiful triumphs of his career, transforming that success into an unforgettable memory. The relationship with his son Lorenzo is characterized by the sharing of passion for sport in all its forms and for the mountains.
"This was the perfect opportunity to look back and take stock of a journey spanning a lifetime," Maurizio explained, "it was the ideal starting point to tell my story. Presenting this project in Trento, in my home and in front of the Festival dello Sport audience, is an immense joy. Having shared this adventure and this story with my daughter Carlotta gives all this work a value that goes far beyond the victories of the past."
The film is currently in the completion and editing phase; details about publication and the platforms where it will be possible to view it will be communicated soon.
