With the victory of the national tender "Bikes in Municipality" (promoted by the Ministry for Sport and Youth in collaboration with Sport and Health S.P.A and the National Association of Italian Municipalities) and the subsequent adoption of a series of ad hoc measures (some planned, others already implemented), the Municipality of Ponza has launched a transformation to make the homonymous island increasingly cyclist and cycle tourism-friendly.
The introduction of a Zone 30 in the two and a half kilometers of roads around the port area, the implementation of appropriate road markings, the scheduled resurfacing of asphalt and the installation of 4 charging stations for e-bikes are just some of the interventions that have winked at two wheels and their users and which, as explained to us by the municipal administration, have represented serious incentives for cycling mobility that has become, in recent months, an increasingly concrete reality.
To test it firsthand and personally verify the leap made by Ponza to become a cycling-powered island, we traveled there where, properly guided by Mayor Francesco Amorino and the delegate for institutional relations Ferdinando Femiano, by the President of CUS Roma Tor Vergata Manuel Onorati and the President of the Ponza Amateur Sports Association Biagio Rispoli, we had the opportunity to spend a day in the saddle useful for fully understanding whether and how cycling on this location in the middle of the Tyrrhenian Sea makes sense.
